CM Punk recently found himself in the spotlight due to controversy surrounding his apology to a fan and the people of Saudi Arabia during the WWE Night of Champions Kickoff show on Friday, June 27th, in Riyadh. This incident follows remarks he made in 2019, which were directed at The Miz and sparked significant attention in which he wrote, “Go suck a blood money-covered d**k in Saudi Arabia, you f***ing dork.”
Dave Meltzer mentioned on the latest episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that CM Punk’s apology made onstage was pre-planned. He also revealed that he spoke with several individuals within WWE regarding the situation. According to his sources, Punk’s apology in Saudi Arabia was not spontaneous; it wasn’t a case of a fan asking him a question out of the blue, prompting him to react and apologize on the spot.
It was also reported by Meltzer that Punk intended to travel to Saudi Arabia to apologize for his past comments. Meltzer said, “He was going there to apologize. The impression that they had that I was given is that everyone, Saudi Arabia, TKO, CM Punk, they’re all on board, and this is just what we gotta do.”
Moreover, the report indicates that WWE officials believed Punk’s trip to Saudi Arabia and his subsequent apology positively contributed to his image and was the correct course of action. Meltzer said, “If he [Punk] has any qualms, nobody knows them.”
In terms of WWE Chief Creative Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque praising CM Punk’s growth as a person during the post-show of Night of Champions. According to Meltzer, this is the message WWE wants to convey about Punk at this time, stating, “That’s the message that they want, that he’s grown up and not a hothead anymore. And his message was that he was mad at The Miz over something, and he didn’t really mean it about Saudi Arabia.”
