On the latest episode of her popular Youtube series Ronda on the Road, Raw women’s champion Ronda Rousey opens up about the verbiage WWE asks her to use while selling her triple-threat matchup against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania. Rousey recalls that in UFC, “headlining” was the proper term, but rants about how WWE forces her to say “main event.”
“Which is so funny because I only heard of main event being used as a verb when I came to WWE, you know? When I was in the UFC, it was like, ‘You’re in the main event or headlining,’ headlining was the verb. Everyone’s like, ‘Main eventing,’ and I’m like, ‘How is this like a verb? Why are we using this as a verb now?’ Then I was like, ‘I wanna say headline.’ And they’re like, ‘No, you need to say main eventing.’ I’m like, ‘This is now the designated verb, this isn’t just something that’s acceptable and people use it?’ It’s now what people prefer, it’s the strangest thing. But yea, in the fictitious world of WWE, main event is a word, and it and it’s possible to be main eventing. But it still sounds weird to me.”
Rousey would then claim that she was the sole reason that the women were main eventing WrestleMania for the first time, and that no one wants to see Charlotte against Becky recycled over and over again.
“It’s really cool to see people so pissed off, that thought I would fail miserably, and see that within one year, I’m in the main event of WrestleMania. You know what? I could promise you that Charlotte vs. Becky 9000 would not have made the main event of WrestleMania. They need me and I made it happen.”
