A lot of familiar faces were backstage at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas on Sunday night despite not being used on the WWE Royal Rumble 2020 pay-per-view broadcast.
As far as one of the faces that did get used on the show, Santino Marella, it appears to have been just a one-time appearance strictly to insert a surprise / unexpected move in the Women’s Royal Rumble match.
After making a return to WWE in the Women’s Royal Rumble match under his Santina Marella persona, there are no further plans to use the former WWE Intercontinental Champion on TV going forward.
As far as some of the faces that didn’t get used on the show, injuries and other reasons kept them from being used in some form-or-fashion in the two Royal Rumble matches, which combined needed 60 Superstars to fill out.
The Undertaker, Kane, Big Show, Nia Jax, Ember Moon, Ruby Riott and Xavier Woods were among the notable names that were all backstage at the WWE Royal Rumble PPV over the weekend.
Jax, Moon, Woods and Riott are all currently out of action due to injury. Jax and Riott are very close to returning, while Woods is said to be ahead of schedule and eyeing a spring return.
