Stone Cold Steve Declined WWE’s Offer to Wrestle at WrestleMania 39

— Stone Cold Steve Austin’s name has been tossed out around repeatedly over the last couple of weeks as not only potentially wrestling at WrestleMania 39 in a few months but being booked in one of the top matches on the card. Previously it was reported that WWE extended an offer to Austin last summer to wrestle a match against Brock Lesnar, but the offer apparently fell short of Austin’s expectations from a monetary perspective and he declined. Fast forward to the end of 2022 and Austin then reportedly received a very lucrative new offer this time to oppose Roman Reigns and up until this week, it was unclear what his response was.

— On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that Austin has in fact, turned down working in a match at WrestleMania but wouldn’t rule out making some sort of appearance in a non-wrestling capacity. Meltzer confirmed WWE’s proposals of matches against Lesnar and Reigns and ultimately noted that Austin could have hand picked his opponent if he wanted to, but decided against stepping back into the ring.

— Meltzer also commented on The Rock’s status for WrestleaMania, suggesting that it doesn’t appear likely that he will be able to main event, however, the door remains open for him to try and make next year’s WrestleMania fit into his schedule.
