Tony Khan Discusses His Decision To Air CM Punk / Jack Perry Footage On AEW Dynamite This Week

— AEW is set to air footage from the infamous backstage confrontation at All In: London where CM Punk and Jack Perry went at it that ultimately led to Perry’s suspension and Punk’s termination from the promotion. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, AEW CEO Tony Khan had the following to say about his decision to air the footage, noting that it is not a bait-and-switch:

“AEW has a great track record on delivering what we advertise, and it is real footage. The Young Bucks will show backstage footage from All In, the most important event in AEW history–the world record-holder for the most tickets ever sold for any wrestling record, 81,035 total–and it was an important night backstage, as well.”

— When asked if the decision to air the footage was based on a grudge against CM Punk, who spoke of the incident last week with Ariel Helwani, Khan said:

“The decision is based on putting on the best show for AEW, as well as driving interest for Dynamite and our Dynasty pay-per-view on April 21. This is real-life footage that affected many people, and it will air for the first time on TBS during Dynamite.”

“The Young Bucks are wrestling for the world tag team championship at AEW Dynasty against longtime rivals FTR. Their rivalry is one of the most significant ever in AEW, and there is a good reason why the Young Bucks are showing this video. It’s important that the Young Bucks explain the reason why this is relevant going into Dynasty. It should be another must-see part of a great show on Dynamite.”

— It was also suggested that the airing of the footage could be a way to reintroduce Jack Perry into storylines as he has not been seen on AEW TV since the incident but has worked for NJPW instead. PWInsider.com also reported that it is believed that the footage that will air will be security footage related to the incident and it was previously noted that it will not include any content that would show the interaction between Khan and Punk that took place immediately afterwards that Khan said contributed to Punk’s firing.
