Apparently Cody Rhodes was recently denied the ability to trademark his own late father’s name.
According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Executive Vice President (EVP) and active AEW talent Cody Rhodes has been denied by the U.S. Patent and Trade Office in his attempt to trademark his father’s name, Dusty Rhodes.
Reports are that the trademark was refused due to its similarity to Dustin Rhodes, Cody’s older brother.

Here, the marks share one term, “RHODES”, and a highly similar term “DUSTY/DUSTIN”, and share the same overall commercial impression of that of a surname and given name, respectively. Given the high similarity in appearance, sound, and meaning of the marks, the marks are confusingly similar.
“The American Nightmare’s” legal team states that they plan to continue pursuing the trademark.
