Update: Ric Flair In Hospital For Planned Surgery, Still Set For Starrcast II Roast

It appears that “The Nature Boy” might be alright, after all.

As noted, TMZ reported this morning that Ric Flair was hospitalized after “something went wrong” while he was in the Atlanta, Georgia area on Thursday morning. The report claimed the two-time WWE Hall Of Famer was in “very serious” condition.

In an update, Conrad Thompson, the son-in-law of Ric Flair and the former co-host of his official podcast and the promoter of the upcoming Starrcast II convention which features The Ric Flair Roast as the headline act, noted during a promotional media conference call today that “‘Naitch” was actually in the hospital for a scheduled operation.

Thompson mentioned that “The Nature Boy” had the surgery scheduled before the Starrcast II convention next weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The aforementioned Ric Flair Roast is scheduled for Friday, May 24th.

“This was not a last minute surprise for the family,” Thompson said. “He was going to be having a procedure done today. I don’t think it’s nearly as grave or serious as TMZ would have us believe because Ric’s in good spirits about it and knew is was happening. He could choose to have it now or after Vegas. [Flair] decided to have it done now because he thought he’d be feeling good and wanted to get this behind him beforehand.”

As far as TMZ claiming the situation was “very serious” and unplanned in nature, Thompson disagreed.

“It [was] not a last-minute surprise situation,” he said in response to the TMZ report.
