Appearing on “LIVE with Kelly & Ryan” yesterday, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was asked about his wrestling career and if he misses wrestling. Hosts Ryan Seacrest and Maria Menounos had no idea what kind of answer was coming next.
Johnson commented that he indeed does miss wrestling as there’s nothing like a live audience and a live microphone, but that he has “quietly retired from wrestling.”
It’s unclear if he means he’s done with wrestling in any capacity or simply referring to his in-ring career, which has effectively been over for a number of years due to conflicts with his acting career.
You ca see a clip of this below, as well as him talking about his first match for WWE at Madison Square Garden.
“I miss wrestling. I love wrestling,” The Rock told Maria Menounos and Ryan Seacrest while promoting his new film, “Hobbs & Shaw,” which also features Roman Reigns and is in theaters nationwide now. “Yes, I do,” he continued, before dropping a bombshell.
“I quietly retired from wrestling because I was lucky enough to have just a really wonderful career and accomplish what I wanted to accomplish,” said The Rock. “I mean there’s nothing like a live crowd, a live audience, a live microphone as you both know.”
The Rock added, “Plus, I grew up in wrestling. For a lot of you guys that don’t know, my grandfather wrestled, my Dad as well, my whole family.”
