Things are about to get interesting at the top of the men’s singles division on WWE’s blue brand, and things will get kicked into overdrive when the main event at this Sunday night’s WWE Payback pay-per-view unfolds.
The status of Roman Reigns continues to be one that has the pro wrestling world talking ever since he unexpectedly reemerged before the WWE Universe at the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view this past Sunday.
With only a seven-day turnaround between WWE SummerSlam and WWE Payback, the company had to move fast on Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown this week to set up the card for the pay-per-view coming up this Sunday night.
On the WWE Payback “go-home” edition of Friday Night SmackDown this week, The Big Dog” was shown aligned with a returning Paul Heyman at the conclusion of the show (Watch Video Here).
Heyman appeared to be helping Reigns review the contract for his WWE Universal Championship match against “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman in the triple-threat main event of the 8/30 PPV.
Following the show, many have wondered whether the Reigns/Heyman alignment on the blue brand weekly program on FOX meant a heel turn for Reigns or a baby face turn for Heyman, although the latter is assumed.
In an update posted at PWInsider.com after this week’s WWE on FOX show, it was confirmed that the developments are indeed meant to be a heel turn for Reigns.
The report claims that moving forward, Reigns is to be pushed as “The Big Dog” of the heel division on the blue brand, as it was made clear to those in creative and writing positions that Reigns is to be pushed as the clear-cut top heel on the Friday Night SmackDown brand.
With “The Monster Among Men” turning heel himself in recent weeks, a move that is still the direction for his character going forward, it is said that “The Fiend” will not only be getting a baby face turn, but will reportedly be pushed as the clear-cut top baby face on the Friday Night SmackDown brand.
Knowing that, it is believed that the booking of the aforementioned Reigns vs. Strowman vs. Wyatt triple-threat title match at this coming Sunday night’s WWE Payback PPV will be done in a way to further cement Reigns and Strowman as heels, and “The Fiend” as a baby face.
We will keep you posted here at eWrestling.com as additional developments and updates regarding the future plans for Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman, “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and any other WWE Superstars continue to surface.
