The New Day Broken Up In WWE Draft On Friday Night SmackDown (10/9/2020)

Update On WWE Splitting Up The New Day During Night 1 Of WWE Draft After SmackDown Tag-Title Win

The New Day are no more.

The long-expected split of the wildly popular WWE trio consisting of Big E., Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston finally took place during the WWE Draft 2020 night one special edition of Friday Night SmackDown on FOX from the Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando, Florida on October 9, 2020.

The WWE SmackDown Tag-Team Championships changed hands during the show, with New Day members Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, both of whom returned to TV, defeating Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro to become the new champions.

The celebration was short-lived, however, as Stephanie McMahon announced that the new champions were being drafted by Monday Night Raw but with the next pick, SmackDown chose Big E. — effectively ending the group’s run as a cohesive unit.

For whatever this is worth, in September, the @WrestleVotes Twitter account known for breaking behind-the-scenes stories from the world of WWE, reported that an idea was being discussed by WWE creative that would see Kingston on Raw, Big E. on SmackDown and Xavier Woods floating between the two brands as their manager.

We will keep you updated as more details continue to surface regarding WWE’s plans for The New Day group and the three members — Big E., Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston — coming out of the WWE Draft 2020 two-night special, which wraps up with the night two special edition of Monday Night Raw on October 12, 2020.
