WWE 24/7 Champion and the newest member of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers franchise, Rob Gronkowski, recently spoke about his status as a current title-holder in WWE during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and was the subject of a conversation among WWE legends regarding a potential showdown against NBA legend Dennis Rodman.
Gronkowski joined Renee Young on this week’s episode of the weekly WWE On FOX series, WWE Backstage — which aired on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) on Tuesday, April 28th — for a discussion about his status as the reigning WWE 24/7 Champion and how the company is going to need more security as a result.
“Yes, we need a lot security,” Gronk told Young. “We need security everywhere. Every tunnel, every entrance. Everywhere in the stadium, because I’m the 24/7 WWE title belt champion right now, of the world. Everyone’s coming for me.”
The former longtime New England Patriots Tight End, who recently switched teams to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a move that shocked the football and general sports world, also spoke about what it is like to hold such a unique title during a Quarantine Time with Stay-At-Home orders and other side affects from the Coronavirus Outbreak.
“My friends are coming for me, and it’s special right now to have it during this quarantine time because no one can find me,” Gronk explained. “No one gets me. So I’m the champ for a while.”
He added, “I am the champ right now and everyone is going to be coming for me. I got to have extra security. But what’s crazy is the security people. It’s the 24/7 belt. Any one can win it at any time. So I better watch out. I got to watch my own back.”
After the live interview wrapped up, WWE Backstage analysts Renee Young, Booker T, Mark Henry and Christian spoke about the potential celebrity sports athlete showdown in WWE between the NFL star and NBA legend.
The foursome spoke about “Rodzilla,” who was the focus of the latest pair of episodes released from the new critically acclaimed ten-part documentary series, “The Last Dance,” which looks at Michael Jordan’s final season with the NBA’s Chicago Bulls franchise, possibly squaring off against “Gronk” inside the WWE squared circle.
Additionally, video footage of Dennis Rodman calling out Rob Gronkowski for a potential WWE WrestleMania match from last month’s new episode of “WWE Untold” on the WWE Network, which looked at Rodman’s tag-team match with Hollywood Hulk Hogan against Diamond Dallas Page (DDP) and fellow NBA star Karl Malone from the WCW Bash At The Beach 1998 pay-per-view during the WWE vs. WCW “Monday Night Wars.”
“Someone asked me, ‘Dennis you want to wrestle again?’ I could tell you a guy I really want to wrestle and that’s Gronkowski,” said Rodman during “WWE Untold: Rodzilla Runs Wild. I mean that guy from New England. He talks a lot of sh*t.”
Rodman continued, “I’m fifty years old, you’re 32, 33 years old, great. It don’t matter to me, let’s go ahead and do this sh*t.” (Watch Video Here).
The NBA legend and former celebrity member of the soon-to-be WWE Hall Of Fame “New World Order (nWo)” faction concluded, “This ain’t about me making any money, I’ll just go out and wrestle his ass. Let’s go on and do it.”
