After WWE’s recent edict prohibiting its talent from working with third parties within 30 days if the company deems that they are using the names and likeness owned by WWE in a way that harms them.
The rule came directly from Vince McMahon and could lead to fines, suspensions and even termination if the wrestlers don’t follow it.
After this happened, several wrestlers have quickly changed the names on their various social media platforms to reflect their real names as they believe this will satisfy WWE’s requirement.
Others have also reached out to note that WWE has not claimed ownership of their real names (as an original report indicated) but rather just the names that the company owns and has trademarked.
PWInsider.com reports that the sources they have spoken to have suggested that Twitch and Cameo would fall under the “third party” umbrella and that some talent have expressed concern that another option WWE could put forth is to request a portion of whatever earnings are generated from those platforms.
While wrestlers have opened up accounts with Twitch and Cameo to supplement their incomes, the company is arguing that they are still being paid their downside guarantee despite having to work less events on the year, which in turn is also reducing their road costs.
WWE sources are also noting that the company gave a significant number of wrestlers raises within the last year.
