In the latest edition of Fightful Select Answers, Sean Ross Sapp was asked about the current writing teams for both AEW and WWE, and he discussed the creative leads for each company.
According to Sapp, WWE operates under the guidance of Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque. The current co-lead writers for SmackDown are Brian “Road Dogg” James and John Swikata, while Jonathan Baekstrom and Ryan Ward serve as the co-lead writers for RAW.
Sapp also revealed that AEW has a different creative structure compared to WWE. In AEW, company President and CEO Tony Khan oversees all creative efforts and makes the final decisions on what appears on television, similar to Triple H’s role in WWE. The report indicates that AEW does not have “lead writers” in the traditional sense as WWE does. Instead, several individuals contribute to creative, including RJ City, Will Washington, Sonjay Dutt, QT Marshall, and Jenn Pepperman. Additionally, the coaches in AEW play a significant role in the creative process.
RJ City has previously been recognized for his involvement in the creative direction of “Timeless” Toni Storm, while Mercedes Moné has credited Jenn Pepperman as the person who collaborates with her on her creative concepts.
