- Despite this announcement from WWE, Dave Meltzer indicated on Wrestling Observer Radio, that he believes that match won’t happen, possibly with the storyline explanation that Jericho is injured.
- The backstage speculation is that Owens will instead end up facing Finn Balor at Payback and in another potential match, Seth Rollins will take on Samoa Joe.
