As promised, WWE delivered their “special announcement” on this week’s episode of NXT TV on the WWE Network.
The announcement was the return of the Dusty Rhodes Tag-Team Classic Tournament. The tourney will feature eight teams, with the winners earning a NXT Tag-Team Championship match against the War Raiders at the NXT TakeOver: New York event during WrestleMania 35 Week.
The first round matches for the tourney will begin airing on the 3/6 episode of NXT TV.
The first four teams for the tourney were confirmed to be the Undisputed ERA (Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish), the Forgotten Sons (Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler), Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel and The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins).
At the NXT TV tapings on Wednesday night (Full Spoilers Here) the other four teams were confirmed to be Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano, Ricochet & Aleister Black, Tyler Bate & Trent Seven and Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch.
The first round matches on the left side of the bracket will be Bate & Seven vs. The Street Profits and Lorcan & Burch vs. The Forgotten Sons. On the right side of the bracket, the first round matches are Undisputed ERA vs. Ciampa & Gargano and Ricochet & Black vs. Aichner & Barthel. WWE taped the first round and semifinal matches for the tournament at the aforementioned tapings on Wednesday night. For complete spoiler results, click here.
