— During today’s WWE Backlash press conference, CCO Paul “HHH” Levesque announced that a tournament will begin next week on Raw and Smackdown to crown the new WWE World champion.
— On the May 8 episode of Raw, two triple threat matches will take place with the winners of those matches meeting later on in the night. The winner advances to the Night of Champions PLE that takes place in Backlash. The same setup will take place on Smackdown with triple threat matches and the winners facing off later in the episode to advance to the final. The winner of that final match at Night of Champions will be crowned the new World Champion. The 12 total competitors who will be participating have not yet been publicized.
