"Stone Cold" Steve Austin Comments On Making His Return To 'The World's Most Famous Arena' On Sept. 9

WWE Discussing Plans For “Stone Cold” Steve Austin at Next Year’s WrestleMania 39

– Last week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter discussed the possibility of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin competing in another match at WrestleMania 39, noting that there have been discussions in recent weeks and that there is “smoke to the fire.” While Austin himself skirted around commenting on the rumors, there appear to be two ideas floating around about involving Austin.

– The first would see him work with a younger wrestler – similar to last year with Kevin Owens – and that wrestler would more or less carry the match in an easy brawl where Austin would go over but the wrestler in question would be elevated by working with Austin. Names suggested here include Austin Theory and Baron Corbin.

– The second scenario would involve a dream match situation with three options being John Cena, Brock Lesnar or CM Punk with the Punk match obviously impossible unless Punk gets out of his AEW contract and doesn’t have a non-compete clause that runs through WrestleMania. If WWE is able to make an Austin dream match work, they would have it headline one night and then hopefully have Roman Reigns vs. The Rock for the other in an absolute perfect scenario.
