It looks like WWE will be treating their upcoming draft as a essentially a legitimate sports draft, as opposed to recent iterations of the WWE Superstar Shakeup-style draft where wrestlers are randomly announced.
According to the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, the structure for WWE’s upcoming SmackDown & RAW draft is that it will be presented like a sports-style draft. The report adds that there will be representatives — unclear who they may be at this point — that will be making the SmackDown picks for FOX and the RAW picks for USA Network, similar to an NFL draft.
The idea behind this is to make the draft as legitimate and authentic as possible.
Another point mentioned was that at this point WWE does not want any “authority figures” on either show and it’s unknown if or when they will be bringing back those sort of roles.
NXT talent are not expected to be involved in the draft, but the selections are said to be complete, however are being kept very secret to the point where even the wrestlers involved are for the most part completely unaware where they may end up.
