WWE FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN RESULTS (05/28/2021)
Pre-Show Opening
The Friday, May 28th, 2021 edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown opens with the recently updated WWE… Then… Now… TOGETHER opening sequence to play us into tonight’s show airing on FOX Network as the clock strikes 8:00 p.m. (Eastern Time).
Backstage – Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso
We immediately head backstage as we see Jimmy Uso is standing in their dressing room in the Yuengling Center arena in Tampa, FL. Jimmy is with his twin brother, Jey Uso, as he starts off by expressing to his brother, “365 Days… now it’s me and you back in it!” Jey is smiling ear to ear similarly to his brother. “Tag-team back in it, I can’t wait! I can’t wait! I got goosebumps on me!” Jimmy continues as he tries to hype up his tag-team partner after a year long absence from wrestling after suffering a torn ACL injury that kept him on the road to recovery while Jey Uso became his cousin Roman Reigns’ lacky for “lack” of a better word (pun intended).
Roman Reigns Interrupts His Cousins Backstage
As Jey is starting to feel the vibes his twin brother, Jimmy, is putting off prior to their tag-team match tonight, suddenly in walks their cousin, WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, accompanied by his “special counsel” Paul Heyman. Reigns has a slight smug smirk on his face as he stops right in front of Jimmy and Jey. Paul Heyman is standing behind Reigns as he begins, “Gentlemen…” to which Jey Uso gives him the glare of “I wouldn’t if I were you” and Jimmy Uso doesn’t take his eyes off his cousin, Roman, for a single second as Heyman retreats behind Reigns without uttering another word. Jimmy begins to nod at Reigns as Roman nods as well and starts, “Y’all ready? Ya feel good?” Jimmy responds that he feels good and is ready, adding that he’s been waiting for this.
Roman Reigns continues on as he looks to Jimmy, “Before you go out there, I just want to get this correct. I want to know what the game plan is. You’re making all these moves… I want to know what your intentions are. What’s the end game here?” Jimmy Uso immediately responds, “The end game is to win, Usse. The intention is to go out there and win. You got the gold, we gettin’ the gold. The whole family is going to be proud. You always asking us how we going to do that, we gonna be on point. We goin’ to be on. I can’t wait.” Jimmy then reiterates in a less-certain voice for the first time in the conversation, “…I can’t wait.”
To that, Reigns responds, “You got it figured out. I’m happy for you. Good luck.” Jimmy looks surprised as he responds, “Yeah??” Jimmy then turns to Jey and hypes up once again, “Let’s go, Usse!” At this point Jimmy walks away as Roman and Jey stay behind alone. Reigns then adds where Jimmy can’t hear, “You’re going to need it”. Jey doesn’t look too pleased with the situation at all. Reigns then taunts Jey slightly as he asks, “What’s that? Your brother talking for you now?” Jey then responds, “Even though I’m with Jimmy tonight… you know I’m with you. I’m with you.” Reigns responds, “Maybe you should tell him…”
Inside The ThunderDome
“Are you ready??” is heard over the speakers in the arena as we enter the ThunderDome inside the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida to kick off the first match-up of the evening! We hear the commentary team again welcome us to the ThunderDome. Michael Cole introduces The Street Profits as Pat McAfee says, “It’s Smoke Season!” Michael Cole thanks the WWE Universe for spending part of their Memorial Day weekend with the WWE here for Friday Night SmackDown as Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins continue their entrance down the ramp as they carry their red cups. Cole light-heartedly mocks the leopard-print shirt that McAfee is wearing at the announcer’s table. McAfee doesn’t skip a beat as he responds that Netflix is already making offers for a “Leopard King Documentary” jokingly.
Announcer’s Table
As Michael Cole and Pat McAfee continue their ringside banter as they sit at the announcer’s table and watch Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins of The Street Profits make their way into the ring as their entrance theme continues to play over the speakers of the ThunderDome in the Yuengling Center arena in Tampa, Florida as they prepare for the first match-up of the evening. Cole and McAfee remind us of the opening segment with The Usos and what Reigns said after Jimmy had walked off to prepare for the opening match. A screenshot hyping The Street Profits vs. The Usos for FOX’s Friday Night SmackDown opening match appears on the screen.
Quick Announcement
Next, we see another match that is set for later tonight on the May 28th, 2021 edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown which will be another Tag-Team Match, for the SmackDown Tag-Team Championship with the current reigning champions, Rey & Dominik Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode which is set to take place later on in the show.
In-Ring Promo – The Street Profits
As we enter the ring inside The ThunderDome, we see that Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins are standing inside the ring, both holding a microphone in one hand, and a red cup in the other as they prepare to cut a promo prior to their match-up with The Usos. Montez Ford lifts the microphone to his lips and starts off, “Yeeeeeeeaahhhh… Yeeee-aaahhh!” Ford then continues, “Dawkins, Dawkins, Dawkins… Lemme rap to them real quick.” Angelo Dawkins nods his head in agreement as he waits for Montez Ford to proceed with what he has to say. Ford then clears his throat before he continues, “It is Friday Night in the ThunderDome, but dog, I don’t know if you noticed… I don’t know if you know. this. MAN.” Dawkins responds with a quick, “uh-huh” to allow Ford to continue.
Ford’s voice continues to get a bit more dramatically strained as he says, “But all week, I’ve had a little pep in my step.” Dawkins responds that he did notice a bounce, fam. Ford is on a roll, so he continues, “I mean, because tonight, is a night, unlike no other night… my brother from another mother!” Dawkins shouts, “Talk to ’em!” Ford is hyped now as he states, “Because tonight is the CLAASHH Of The Titans! TONIGHT is The Street Profits going against, The (Ford’s voice gets higher and feminine now) UUUUSSSSSOOOOOSS!” Ford then quickly follows up with, “Ewww-Soo Cwaazzzy!” as he mocks Jimmy and Jey. Ford repeats himself before moving on. Ford admits The Street Profits had “fun” at their expense last week on SmackDown.
At this point Ford gets a little rhyme going that continues to trash-talk The Usos as The Street Profits continue their promo inside the ring. Ford then changes his tone as he says “All jokes aside, when The Street Profits heard that The Usos, the SIX-time tag-team champions were challenging The Street Profits… we felt flattered!” Angelo Dawkins adds, “We went to bed early…” Ford again changes his tone as he adds that he and Dawkins do not think that they are getting “the best version” of The Usos (given the fact that Jimmy Uso has “been on the shelf” for about a year, and Jey has rented the space in his head to Roman Reigns for almost the same amount of time).
The Usos Interrupt – Entering For Opening Match
On that note, The Usos entrance theme sounds as Jimmy and Jey Uso make their entrance, walking out to the stage with microphones in hand as well (clearly ready to rebuttle). Apparently The Usos didn’t appreciate the trash-talk from Montez and Angelo inside the ring. To start off, Jimmy Uso states that he realizes that The Profits “got jokes”. Jimmy continues on to state that it doesn’t matter though, because “the best damn tag team in the business” is back. At this point, Jimmy proceeds to list The Usos accomplishments. Jey then states firmly that “if they say another word about Roman, he’ll drop ‘em where they stand.” Jey is clearly upset as he adds if The Street Profits want to “stick their nose in family business, now they got to get them.”
From inside the ring, Angelo Dawkins finally pipes in as he states that he’ll give The Street Profits some credit… they USED to run the Tag-Team Division of the WWE… but, Dawkins has some news for them. Dawkins clears his throat before annunciating and clearly stating that The Street Profits run the tag-division now.
The Street Profits vs. The Usos
At this point, The Usos welcome The Street Profits to the “Uso Penitentiary” as both teams simultaneously drop their microphones and quickly meet up face to face in the center of the ring as they proceed to non (inaudibly) trash-talk one another. On that note… we head to the first commercial break of the evening!
As we return from the first commercial break of the evening, again the commentary team of Michael Cole and Pat McAfee hype the return to touring for the 2021 Summer shows before we return to the ring to get the first match-up of the evening underway. We see that Angelo Dawkins is in for The Street Profits, and Jimmy Uso is in for The Usos as the referee moves to the center of the ring to signal for the bell to start the match. The bell chimes and we (FINALLY) kick off the first match-up of the evening! To start the action inside the ring, Jimmy Uso immediately takes the match to the corner of the ring as he attempts to overpower Angelo Dawkins.
The two men bounce off the ropes and Angelo uses the momentum to level Jimmy with a heavy shoulder shove take-down! Jimmy makes his way back to his feet, only to be again taken down with yet another shoulder shove from Dawkins. At this point, Angelo heads to his corner of the ring where he makes the tag to his partner now, Montez Ford. Ford makes his way into the ring before Dawkins makes his exit, and the two quickly double-team Jimmy as Dawkins slams his tag-team partner down onto Jimmy Uso for a pin-fall attempt. Ford makes the cover to Uso. Jimmy quickly gets the shoulder up, and breaks free from the grips of Ford, then Jimmy quickly rolls out under the bottom rope so he can regroup at ringside for a moment and gather his barring’s.
Jimmy Uso makes his way back into the ring at this point and before he can be taken down or injured, he makes his way over to his corner where he successfully makes the tag to his brother, Jey Uso. Jey makes his way into the ring at this point and immediately delivers a Kick to Montez Ford before the two again meet up face to face and proceed to lock-up. Jey continues to dominate the ring as he repeatedly lands strikes and kicks to Montez inside the ring. At this point, Montez looks to counter Jey’s offensive push, successfully taking Jey down with a hard Arm Drag. Ford follows up by mimicking The Usos as he continues to dominate over Jey who is still being held down to the canvas by Ford.
At this point, The Street Profits again go for the double-team action on The Usos as they successfully land a Back Suplex, allowing Angelo Dawkins to head in for the cover in yet another pin-fall attempt. Jey again is able to kick out at the two-count to continue the match up with Angelo Dawkins inside the ring. Jey proceeds to make his way back to a standing position as he meets up with Dawkins in the center of the ring. Jey is able to power Dawkins into the corner of the ring just as Jimmy Uso makes his way into the situation and we see Jimmy and Jey deliver the double-team action. Jimmy is able to successfully take down Angelo for another quick pin attempt. Angelo breaks free, only to get a Headbutt from Jimmy Uso who lands the move directly to the shoulder of Dawkins to continue the match!
Jimmy Uso looks to continue to dominate in the match as he proceeds with several more strikes that connect to Dawkins until finally Angelo is able to counter with a maneuver that takes Jimmy down to the canvas and allows Dawkins to go in for the cover! Jimmy luckily breaks free and gets the shoulder up at the count of two, stopping the referee from getting to three as Jimmy quickly rolls away and looks to get back to his feet now. Back to a standing position in the match, The Usos are able to keep control in the match-up with Jimmy inside the ring. Finally we see Jey reach his hand in from The Uso’s corner of the ring. Jey looks to keep Angelo down on the mat and we then see Jimmy reach in, as he wants to return to the match just as quickly as he tagged out.
At this point both of The Usos remain inside the ring at the tag, some double-team action plays out on Angelo Dawkins now. Jimmy Uso attempts to take complete control now when suddenly Dawkins is able to block Jimmy now with a Deep Arm Drag that sends Jimmy down hard to the canvas. Dawkins quickly looks to follow up when we see Montez Ford reach in for the tag to his tag-team partner. Ford makes his way in now and immediately lands a massive Dropkick to take down Jimmy. We see Jey quickly enter the ring but he too eats a massive Dropkick from Ford! Now that they’re on the offense, The Street Profits team up and take out both of The Usos with a Clothesline over the top rope.
Jimmy and Jey Uso both land on the floor at ringside, with Jey getting tossed all the way into the timekeeper’s area. Meanwhile Jimmy gets thrown over the announce table. Once again it’s time to head to commercial break, as The Usos are attempting to recuperate at ringside while The Street Profits stand at the ropes inside the ring and we are sent to commercial.
As we return from the second commercial break of the evening, we return to the ring where we see Montez Ford of The Street Profits taking Jey Uso down off the top turnbuckle, as he sends him to the canvas inside the ring. Immediately after that, Jey gets to his feet and quickly retaliates by knocking Montez Ford out to the apron on the outside of the ropes. Jey attempts to grab Montez Ford but instead we see Ford counter and retaliate to take Jey down. To follow up, Montez makes his way up to the top turnbuckle where he has to roll through as nobody is home! Both Ford and Jey make their way back to their feet and head in towards one another. The two meet in the center of the ring where they unintentionally collide with matching Clotheslines!
With both Montez Ford and Jey Uso laid out inside the ring, we see both Angelo Dawkins and Jimmy Uso stretching their arms in to attempt to get the tag to enter the match. Ford slowly begins to make his way to his corner as he struggles to reach for Dawkins, Jey is doing the same as he stretches towards his corner to tag in Jimmy. Ford finally gets the tag to Dawkins who makes his way into the ring and immediately levels Jey before following up with a blow to Jimmy on the apron, knocking Jimmy down to ringside. Dawkins is all hyped up at this point! Jey gets back to his feet now and retaliates as he kicks Dawkins. Jey then reaches over to his twin brother/tag-team partner, Jimmy Uso, who tags in and quickly makes his way into the ring with his opponent, Angelo Dawkins!
Before Jimmy is able to meet up with Angelo inside the ring, we see Angelo quickly get one last blow in on Jey for the take down. Jimmy is heated at this point, and immediately goes on the offensive as he attacks Angelo Dawkins inside the ring. Dawkins quickly counters with a Corkscrew Elbow! This leads to a pin-fall attempt by Dawkins, luckily Jimmy is able to get the shoulder up at the two-count to continue the match! Jimmy makes his way back to his feet at this point as he makes his way to the apron and is able to land an Enzuguri on Angelo. To follow up, Jimmy heads up to the top turnbuckle for a high-flying move when suddenly Dawkins is back to his feet and meets Jimmy at the top turnbuckle with a blow that takes Jimmy down to the canvas!
Now Montez Ford of The Street Profits quickly makes his way back in to the match and proceeds to jump over the top turnbuckle and fly through the air to land on Jey Uso on the floor at ringside! Back inside the ring, Jimmy Uso and Angelo Dawkins are going back and forth with the action as the match continues. At one point we see Jimmy land a Superkick for the cover, to no avail as Dawkins is able to kick out and continue on in the match up. We then hear the fans from their monitors inside the arena begin a chant of “We Want Smoke! We Want Smoke!” Both Dawkins and Jimmy struggle at first to get back to an upright position, Jimmy successfully back to his feet first. Jimmy uses this to his advantage as he immediately charges at Angelo. Angelo quickly counters as he comes flying out of the corner like a bat out of hell!
Angelo Dawkins gets yet another Shoulder Tackle to regain control of the match, quickly following up with a Twisting Neck-breaker for yet another cover! Uso is able to kick out at the two and the match continues on once again! A stunned Angelo Dawkins simply looks around, wondering what else he could possibly through at Jimmy in order to end the match with a victory! This leads Angelo to begin to talk trash to The Usos once again as he lifts Jimmy Uso up for a Double Under-hook now. Luckily, Jimmy is able to evade, but as he attempts to counter with a Superkick of his own, Dawkins is also able to evade! This leads to Dawkins successfully landing an Enzuguri on Jimmy as the match begins to wain down.
Finally we see Angelo Dawkins land a nasty Spinebuster just as he makes his way to his corner to make the tag to his Street Profits tag-team partner, Montez Ford. Ford makes his way into the ring now and immediately hits the top rope for his signature Frog Splash “From The Heavens”… but Jey is able to grab his twin brother and pull him out of harm’s way, as if his twin-intuition gave him a pre-warning! This leads an angered Angelo Dawkins to follow up by dropping Jey Uso out to the floor at ringside from the side of the ring! Jimmy uses this moment to his advantage as he hits a massive Superkick to Montez Ford who was still attempting to regain his composure and get back to his feet. Jimmy immediately follows up with the cover for the three count pin and win victory for The Uuuuussssoooooosss!!
Winners: The Usos
After the Match
Immediately following the match, we see Jimmy Uso make his way back to his feet after pinning Montez Ford inside the center of the ring. Jey Uso makes his way back into the ring where he quickly begins to celebrate the victory with his twin brother/tag-team partner, Jimmy Uso. The Uso theme music hits the speakers inside the ThunderDome at Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida just as brothers Jimmy and Jey exit the ring and proceed up the ramp, all smiles as they vocally celebrate their victory as well.
An angry and disappointed Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins representing The Street Profits are left to sulk inside the ring as they watch The Usos make their way up the ramp, smiling ear to ear at their victory.
Backstage Interview – Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode
At this point we head to the backstage area with interviewer, Megan Morant, who is standing with the WWE Tag-Team duo of Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode The Dirty Dawgz have an opportunity to win back the SmackDown Tag-Team Championship title belts!
Next Ziggler and Roode state they will win as they are going “back to the drawing board” as they add that “tonight will be different”. They make a point of stating that they are able to pull off such a feat as “they are pros” and they do what they want… when they want… and they WILL once again, become the WWE SmackDown Tag-Team Championship title holders! On that note, they take their leave and walk off backstage down the hall.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match
Natalya & Tamina Snuka vs. The Riott SquadAt this point we return to the ring inside the WWE ThunderDome at Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, as we prepare for the next match-up of the evening which is a non-title match between the current reigning WWE Women’s Tag-Team Champions and their opponents. We hear the entrance theme for WWE Women’s Tag-Team Champs Natalya and Tamina Snuka as they make their way to the stage, stopping to pose before they proceed down the ramp towards the ring. As both of the champions make their way into the ring, we head to commercial break!
As we return from the commercial break, we return to the ring where Tamina and Natalya are standing in the center of the ring just as their entrance theme cuts and they look up the ramp as they await their opponents for tonight’s non-title match-up inside The ThunderDome. The Riott Squad make their way down the ramp and into the ring as the referee quickly moves to the center of the ring and signals for the bell. The bell rings and our next match up of the evening is officially underway! To start the action inside the ring, we see Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan as they take the early advantage in the match-up as they go to work on Natalya! We see an Inverted Surfboard Up-kick that is immediately followed by a Corner Headscissors leading into a Folding Press to attempt an early end to this match-up to no avail!
At this point, the tag is made to Ruby Riott who quickly enters the ring with Natalya and the two immediately go back and forth inside the ring to continue the match. Ruby is able to maneuver her way around Natalya as she positions herself for a Reverse Chin-lock that is successfully locked in on Natalya! The lock doesn’t last long as Natalya is able to thrust herself forward to fling Ruby Riott’s small frame directly to the canvas inside the ring as the match continues on! After some short back and forth action, Natalya looks for a Double Sharpshooter as she nearly gets it when suddenly Tamina pushes Liv Morgan into the attempted pin-fall attempt to break it up!
Finally we see Tamina make the tag to enter the match. Tamina makes her way into the ring with a slightly frightened look on Ruby Riott’s face. Tamina immediately begins to throw strikes and clubbing blows at Riott that send Ruby down to the canvas. Tamina then proceeds to head up the ropes to make her way to the top turnbuckle. Natalya rids any possible distractions as she takes out Liv Morgan towards the end of the match, allowing Tamina to focus. Ruby looks for an Arm Drag, to no avail as Tamina successfully hits a Headbutt that sends Ruby Riott back down to the canvas inside the ring. Tamina then stands on the top turnbuckle and hits a Superfly Splash for the three count pin and win victory!
Winners: Natalya & Tamina
Backstage – WWE Official Adam Pearce
Next we head backstage where we come up to WWE Official Adam Pearce as he is walking down the hallway of the WWE ThunderDome at Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida when suddenly we see Jimmy and Jey Uso as they both approach Pearce.
To start the conversation with Mr. Pearce. The Usos begin by discussing their recent victory (from their match earlier in the evening) as they proceed to turn the conversation to a possible WWE SmackDown Tag-Team Title opportunity for next week’s edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown on FOX. After hearing them out, Mr. Pearce states that he can do that… adding that The Usos can just the same consider the match “official”.
On that note, Jimmy Uso begins to celebrate as he is on cloud nine that he and his twin brother are already the number one contenders for the SmackDown Tag-Team Championships AND already have been approved for the title-match NEXT WEEK on SmackDown. The joy on Jimmy’s face is overshadowed as an awkward exhaling breath escapes the lips of Jey Uso.
In-Ring – WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair
At this point we return to the inside of The ThunderDome as the entrance theme for the current reigning WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair sounds over the speakers inside the Yuengling Center arena in Tampa, Florida. Belair makes her way to the top of the stage, stopping to pose before she proceeds down the ramp towards the ring. As Bianca Belair closes in on the ring, we are again sent to commercial break!
Backstage Interview – Carmella
As we return from the commercial break, we are again backstage where we come across Carmella, who is set to go one-on-one with the current reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion, Bianca Belair in a matter of moments. Carmella is interviewed while she quickly adds the finishing touches on her make-up as she stares into her vanity. Carmella notes that “vanity is meant to be bad” but that doesn’t matter to her. Carmella seems to be more worried about the “hideous” dress that Kayla Braxton chose to wear for tonight’s edition of SmackDown!
Next Carmella turns the discussion to current reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion, Bianca Belair. Carmella discusses how Belair was victorious at the 2021 WWE WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view event. At this point, Carmella begins to brag up her own accolades and achievements in the WWE before claiming that she herself, will be the “ending” to Bianca Belair’s “happily-ever-after”. On that note, Carmella heads towards the main stage to prepare for her entrance.
Bianca Belair vs. Carmella
Once again we return to the ring where we see the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, Bianca Belair as she stands against the ropes, awaiting her opponent for tonight’s match-up, which is set to be Carmella. The entrance theme sounds for Carmella as she makes her way out to the stage, stopping momentarily at the top of the ramp to pose before continuing down the ramp and around the ring at ringside before making her way into the ring with her opponent in tonight’s next match up, Bianca Belair! The referee now moves in closer to the center of the ring when…
Bayley Interrupts
We get the entrance theme for Bayley who makes her way out before the referee is even given the opportunity to signal for the bell to start the match! Bayley struts with her cocky little strut as she has not one apologetic bone in her body as she heads over to the announcer’s table where she takes a seat next to Michael Cole and Pat McAfee. Bayley explains that she has a purpose for being there and that Cole and McAfee are “lucky” to have someone of her “position” to bounce commentary off of for this match.
Back inside the ring (AGAIN)) the referee signals to the timekeeper to sound the bell for the match-up. The bell chimes and the next match is officially underway! To start off the action inside the ring, Bianca Belair immediately bull-rushes Carmella into the turnbuckles, overpowering her to start things off! Belair continues on with several Shoulder Thrusts to Carmella in the corner of the ring, as the referee verbally warns Belair to ease up as the match continues on.
Next we see Carmella run the ropes and head back in with the Satellite Tijeras which causes Belair to be spilled out to the floor at ringside. Next we see Carmella make her way out to ringside to follow Belair and not allow her to recoup at ringside for even a moment. Belair makes her way back to her feet as she looks to take control of the match once again. Belair then gets a hold of Carmella as she lifts the diva into a Military Press hold as she proceeds to toss Carmella back into the ring to continue the match-up! Back inside the ring, a bit of back and forth until Belair successfully takes down Carmella for the cover!
Carmella is able to get herself in a position to get her shoulder up to stop the count and break the cover as the match proceeds on. Bianca and Carmella both make their way back to their feet as Carmella now looks to take over the offense in the match up as she connects with several Back Elbows to Bianca Belair who is trapped in the corner of the ring against the turnbuckles. A Reverse Chin-lock is applied at this point and Bianca makes her way back to her feet once again and proceeds to deliver Back Elbows of her own as she looks for and connects with a Backbreaker to Carmella to force a break!
Carmella hits several Shoulder Thrusts at this point before heading up to the top turnbuckle where she looks to be preparing for a high flying maneuver. Finally Carmella looks for a Diving Crossbody, but Bianca Belair is able to evade, forcing Carmella to roll through. Belair meets up with Carmella in the center of the ring before she can get back up to her feet and look for a different approach to the offense. Belair now Deadlifts Carmella and hits a Fall-Away Slam that sends Carmella down to the canvas with a thud! Next a Kip-Up followed by a Handspring Moonsault for the cover! A kick out at the two-count and the match continues on!
Finally after more back and forth inside the ring, we see Carmella lock in a Hanging Figure-Four Headscissors over the ropes… breaking at four. Next several clubbing blows delivered on the outside of the ropes on the apron. A Superkick that leads into yet another pin-fall attempt by Carmella, but Belair just won’t stay down! A Kick-Out continues the match now, as a Jackknife pin is reversed, followed by a Code of Silence attempt evaded. To finish the match, a Superkick connects and an X-Factor is evaded as well before Belair is able to get the Kiss of Death on Carmella for the three count pin and win victory!
Winner: Bianca Belair
After the Match
Immediately following the match, Bianca Belair celebrates her victory as her theme music sounds over the speakers in the arena! Her victory celebration is unsuccessfully ruined by Bayley who is still at the announcer’s table post-match where she proceeds to attempt to taunt Bianca Belair significantly… Belair doesn’t give Bayley the time of day as she again smiles and celebrates her victory, annoying Bayley.
Backstage Interview – The Mysterios
At this point we head backstage once again for an interview with Rey Mysterio and his son/tag-team partner Dominik Mysterio. The two begin by stating that they have a game plan set in motion, adding that their motivation is incomparable and nobody has a bond quite like they do as father and son inside that ring. They note that NO tag-team in the WORLD can top what they have!
In-Ring Entrance – Seth Rollins
At this point we return to the ring inside The ThunderDome at Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida as the entrance theme sounds for Seth Rollins as Rollins makes his way out to the stage, stopping at the top of the stage to pose before continuing down the ramp towards the ring. At that point, we head to commercial break!
As we return from the commercial break, we again return to the ring where we see Seth Rollins standing in the center of the ring where he begins by stating that “he didn’t come to talk” (that’s new!) as Rollins quickly follows up adding that he came to fight!! At that point, Rollins proceeds to call out the Swiss Cyborg, Cesaro!
Rollins then follows up with a giggle as he adds “with surprise” that “silly him…. Cesaro isn’t HERE to ruin the ‘Greatest Day of the Year'” according to Rollins. Rollins then makes the announcement that today, May 28th, is Seth Rollins’s BIRTHDAY!
Quick Recap – Cesaro’s Absence From SmackDown This Week
At this point, we head into a quick recap of why Cesaro is not here on WWE Friday Night SmackDown in The ThunderDome at Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. Next Rollins attempts to “Shhhh!” the crowd of monitors inside the arena so he can play an audio sound-bit that is meant to be “our little secret” and it’s a heart monitor and what sounds like moaning or agony of a man? Cesaro has blacked out and isn’t sure what happened. After that, Rollins apologizes for “what happened” but quickly retracts the sentiment from the words as he follows up by blaming Cesaro!
Back Inside The Ring
Rollins then claims to be “a man of integrity and responsibility” before adding that he ALSO blames US that watch from home (as we are right now) due to the fact that we are the ones that brainwashed Cesaro into believing it was “ok” for him to look right through Rollins like he did.
“Happy Birthday to Seth… Happy Birthday to Seth…”
On that note, Seth begins to sing “Happy Birthday” to himself as the segment ends and nobody joins in… Happy Birthday bro….
Backstage – Kevin Owens
At this point we head backstage where we see Kevin Owens walking the halls as we again head to commercial break.
Apollo Crews vs. Kevin Owens
We return from the commercial break Kevin Owens waits in the ring as WWE Intercontinental Champion Apollo Crews comes out for this non-title match. Commander Azeez is with him.
The bell rings and Owens unloads, taking Crews into the corner. Owens drops Crews and nails a corner cannonball for a pop. Owens goes to the top and hits the big Swanton but Crews kicks out at 2. Owens and Crews trade suplex attempts while Crews is on the apron. Crews hangs Owens up on the top rope and he goes down. Crews goes to the top but Owens attacks. Crews sends him to the mat.
Crews has to roll through from the top and Owens superkicks him. Crews blocks a Pop-up Powerbomb but Owens continues the quick, aggressive offense as he hits the Stunner. Owens goes for the pin but Azeez hits him with the Nigerian Nail for the disqualification.
Winner (By Disqualification): Kevin Owens
After the Match
Immediately following the match, Kevin Owens is seen gasping for air, trying to suck in a breath any way he can as he’s still down on the canvas as his theme music sounds over the speakers in the arena.
At that point, Apollo Crews is then announced as the retaining champion just as his bodyguard, Azeez, proceeds to help him back to his feet at ringside. Next he hands Crews his Intercontinental Championship Title belt. We then see Kevin Owens struggling to his feet as he stumbles and trips over himself as he makes his way out to ringside. It is clear that he is physically hurting, still choking as he desperately tries to gasp for a breath of fresh air!
We catch one more glimpse of the champion, Apollo Crews who is now standing on the ramp with Azeez. The two look on from the ramp as WWE Officials and medics quickly make their way over to Kevin Owens who is still at ringside, clearly needing medical attention after that brutality!
Backstage – WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns
At this point we head backstage where we see the WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns who is sitting with his “special counsel” Paul Heyman just as Reigns’ cousin, Jey Uso comes walking in and Heyman introduces Jey as if Roman wouldn’t have known who it was otherwise… Jey Uso clearly knows the routine as he takes a seat without being told to do so, across from “The Head Of The Table”, his cousin, Roman Reigns.
To start off the conversation, Reigns immediately brings up the title shot The Usos have for next week and asks if that’s what he wants to do. Reigns asks why Jey told him earlier that he’s still with him. Reigns quickly follows up with “What happened to… ‘we?'” At this point Reigns follows up by stating that after everything they’ve been through over these months, he only wants what is best for his cousin. Reigns continues on to state that that was all that mattered to him, doing right by Jey and the family. They will figure it out when it comes to Jimmy Uso, but Jey is Main Event.
Jey looks slightly shocked at the compliment from Reigns as Reigns continues on without noticing and adds that ‘Jey Uso now and when they go according to Reigns’ plan, Jey owns SmackDown but as soon as his brother comes back, they’re stuck in the opening match.’ Reigns continues on to state that he just doesn’t want Jey to “go back” to a place where people look at him and say wonder which brother he is. Jey shakes his head and says he hasn’t thought about it like that, Usse. Reigns finishes up as he says maybe Jey should think about it like that because his brother isn’t. Fans in the arena boo as the segment ends.
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Chad Gable
At this point we once again return to the ring area inside The ThunderDome at Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida as we prepare to get the next match underway! Next we see Rick Boogs make his way out to the main stage where he proceeds to play his guitar to the theme of Shinsuke Nakamura’s entrance music. Nakamura makes his way out to the main stage, stopping by Boogs, then the two proceed down the ramp and towards the ring together as the crowd pops!
At ringside, the commentary co-host Pat McAfee is seen enjoying this as much as any WWE fan as we head to commercial break! They head to the ring together to a pop as McAfee goes wild at ringside.
As we return from the commercial break, we return to the ring where Shinsuke Nakamura is standing, awaiting his opponent for tonight’s match-up. We are sent into a video clip highlighting the events that lead Nakamura to recently steal King Corbin’s crown! Otis and Chad Gable are in the ring now as Nakamura gets ready. Otis suddenly attacks Nakamura before the bell hits, slamming him in the middle of the ring. The bell rings and the match is officially underway!
To start the action inside the ring for this match-up, we see Gable immediately head in at Nakamura where he proceeds to drop Nakamura with a belly-to-belly suplex, and another for a close 2 count. Gable keeps control until Nakamura levels him with a kick. Otis cheers Gable on but Nakamura unloads with more kicks. Nakamura also rocks Otis from the ring. Gable goes to the top but Nakamura follows. Gable counters and uses the ropes for a submission as the referee counts.
Nakamura comes back but Gable tosses him over his back into the turnbuckles. Gable focuses on the arm but has to land on his feet off a moonsault attempt. More back and forth between the two. Corbin comes to ringside and takes the crown off the announce table, saying it belongs to him. Gable tries to capitalize off the distraction but Nakamura counters and rolls him for 2. Nakamura comes right back with a Kinshasa for the pin to win.
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura
After the Match
Immediately following the match, Shinsuke Nakamura stands tall inside the ring as his music hits. He turns and sees Corbin standing on the ramp with the crown. Corbin rants about the crown belonging to him. He goes to put it back on his own head but Boogs attacks from behind and Corbin goes down, rolling down the ramp. Nakamura comes up and grabs the crown, putting it back on. Nakamura stands with Boogs and they pose together as Boogs plays his theme. Corbin looks on from the ramp and seethes.
Video Clip – Commander Azeez Attacking Kevin Owens
At this point we head into a video clip that recaps the events from earlier in tonight’s show where Commander Azeez attacked Kevin Owens during his match-up causing a DQ.
Backstage – Kevin Owens
Now as the video clip recap comes to an end, we see Kevin Owens is backstage with a trainer and Adam Pearce now. Owens is clearly still in distress as he attempts to gasp for air even now, but is more worried about claiming his title shot against Apollo Crews next week. Pearce makes the match and says Azeez will be banned from ringside.
Backstage- Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio
Next we head to a different area backstage where Dominik Mysterio comes walking up to his father, Rey Mysterio who is apparently, praying? Dominik and Rey then exchange some inaudible dialogue before Dominik proceeds on to head out to the ring. On that note, we head to commercial break!
Backstage Attack! – The Mysterios
As we return from the commercial break, it is immediately clear that at some point during the commercial break, Rey Mysterio has been attacked by someone in the backstage area. WWE Trainers and Dominik Mysterio are by Rey’s side as they check his medical condition.
WWE SmackDown Tag Team Titles Match
Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode vs. Dominik Mysterio & Rey MysterioAt this point we head back to the ring inside The ThunderDome just as WWE Ring Announcer Greg Hamilton proceeds with the official introductions for tonight’s main event match-up. Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler are anxiously and restlessly awaiting their main event match-up as Ziggler proceeds to state that he and Roode are NOT responsible for what happened. Roode says they wanted a fair fight for the titles but if the champs can’t compete, this is a forfeit and they will win the titles.
Next Dolph Ziggler continues on to inform the referee that he can “go ahead and begin the count out”.
WWE Official Adam Pearce Enters
Suddenly we see WWE Official Adam Pearce standing with the medics backstage as they stand with the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio now. Dominik says his dad stepped up for him last week, so he’s doing the same tonight. Ziggler and Roode argue with the referee, saying this can’t happen, can it? The music hits and out comes Dominik to the ring by himself. At this point we head to commercial break.
As we return from the commercial break, the main event match up is officially ready to get underway as the referee moves to the center of the ring to signal for the bell to start the match-up. Dominik charges and attacks both competitors in their corner. He knocks Roode to the floor and goes back to Ziggler but gets dropkicked for a 2 count. Ziggler takes Dominik to the corner and in comes Roode for the double team. Roode with a suplex for a 2 count. Roode unloads on Dominik in a corner now, dropping him and stomping away as the referee warns him and fans boo. Roode takes Dominik back to their corner and tags in Ziggler for more 2-on-1 offense. Dominik blocks a shot from Ziggler but then gets dropped with a right hand.
Ziggler talks some trash and rolls Dominik for a quick pin attempt. Ziggler stomps on Dominik’s hand and takes his time with him now. Ziggler tags in Roode for a quick double team. Roode taunts Dominik and chops away. Roode gets kicked by Dominik but he comes right back with an elbow to level the rookie. Rode scoops Dominik and slams him in the middle of the ring. Roode goes to drop a knee but Dominik moves. Roode sells the hurt knee but tags in Ziggler, who runs in and levels Dominik. Ziggler mocks Dominik for not having a partner to tag. Ziggler grinds Dominik’s face across the top rope, then drops him with a neck-breaker for a two count.
Dominik finally fights out of the corner after more trash talking and double teaming. Dominik sends both challengers to the floor as fans cheer him on. Dominik launches himself over the top rope, taking Roode and Ziggler down on the floor at the same time. Dominik brings Ziggler back in and goes to the top. Dominik has to roll through but he comes right back and drops Ziggler into place for the 619 but Roode cuts him off. Dominik kicks Roode off the apron and drops Ziggler into position for the 619 again. Dominik misses 619 as Ziggler ducks. Ziggler comes right back with the Fame-Asser for a close 2 count.
A stunned Robert Roode shakes his head in disbelief, he simply cannot believe it. At this point, Dolph Ziggler drags Dominik Mysterio back to their corner and tags Roode in. They go for a double Powerbomb – Neck-Breaker combo and they hit it but Dominik kicks out of Roode’s pin. Roode puts Dominik on his shoulders for another double team but Rey’s music hits and out he comes to the stage for a pop. Dominik takes advantage of the distraction and slides off Roode’s shoulders to roll him up for the pin to retain.
Winners: The Mysterios
After the Match
Immediately following the main event match up for the Friday, May 28th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, we see Rey Mysterio slowly making his way out towards the ring, still visibly selling the injuries he sustained from the attack earlier before the main event match-up.
At this point, Rey Mysterio makes his way over to his son, Dominik Mysterio where he proceeds to celebrate the victory together with their title belts.
The Usos Interrupt
Suddenly the entrance theme music for The Usos sounds over the speakers in the arena as Jimmy and Jey Uso make their way out to the stage, but quickly continue down the ramp and into the ring. The two teams of family members face off in the middle of the ring to hype next week’s title match.
