Show Opening

Starting just a couple minutes late, we get the WWE Forever opening at 8:03.

Video Package – PayBack 2020 Highlights

We immediately head into a video package highlighting the matches and storylines from last weekend’s WWE Payback 2020 pay-per-view. To start, we see a recap of last week’s US Championship Match which is on the line as Roman Reigns signs the contract after Fiend and Strowman had already beat the crap out of one another. Reigns with a Spear to Fiend, then covering Strowman for the three count, the new Universal Champion!

Announcer’s Table

The New Era has begun according to Corey Graves and Michael Cole as we kick off the September 4, 2020 edition of Friday Night SmackDown.

In-Ring – Roman Reigns w/ Paul Heyman

The Universal Champion, The Big Dog, Roman Reigns’ music sounds in the ThunderDome as Reigns walks to the stage holding the Universal Championship belt. Paul Heyman accompanies him with a snarling look on his face as he looks around the crowd. Pyro goes off all around Reigns, announcing his descent down the ramp towards the ring.

Paul Heyman and “The New Universal Champion, Roman Reigns!” are officially announced over the speakers in the ThunderDome as Reigns steps into the ring, Heyman right next to him. Reigns stares into the camera, a serious look on his face. He holds the belt above his head and doesn’t flinch as loud pyro goes off all around him.

Heyman lifts the mic to begin. “Just when you thought I was out… he pulled me back in. Oh and please, don’t make fools of yourselves and embarassing yourselves pointing a finger at me corrupting him. Because I assure you, it’s HIM corrupting me.” Heyman states calmly.

Heyman continues in an oddly monotone voice. He continues, “What happened to the ‘thank you’s’ and appreciation? Nobody bothered to say thank you through all the illnesses. When he needed just a little time off, what did you do with his championship? The Fiend does not deserve a championship. A Monster,

Romans REIGN as champion has always been defined family, tradition, legacy, the responsibility of being a champion, and the accountability of the champion.

On RAW they have a triple threat match to see who wi

We will do a Fatal Fourway tonight, the names of those contenders don’t Anderson Cooper and Carmella’s latest boyfriend over there can announce their names.

I’m gonna tell you this one time so you can get it through your thick unappreciative skulls. My name *he pauses* as Paul Heyman and I serve as special counsel to your private chief your reigning undefended undisputed champion, Roman. Reigns.”

Reigns continues to stare into the camera, taking the mic. “I’m a man of my word, I did exactly what I said I would do. I wrecked the Fiend, I wrecked Strowman and I won the title. At Clash of Champions, I don’t care who I defend my title to. Because I will win. On my island, you show up and win. Believe that.”

Reigns drops the mic, not breaking his intense glare into the souls of fans at home.

Heavy Machinary vs. The Miz & John Morrison

Out first for the first official match-up of tonight’s edition of SmackDown is Mr. Money in the Bank Otis with his tag-team partner, Tucker make their way to the stage. Otis hands the briefcase to Tucker as he does multiple cartwheels on the stage (impressive for a man of his size!).

Tucker returns the briefcase as the two make their way down the ramp towards the ring for tonight’s tag-team match-up with The Miz and John Morrison. We head to out first commercial break of the evening!

Connor’s Cure Video Clip

As we return from commercial break, we are sent into the same Connor’s Cure Video Clip we saw on SmackDown last week.

Backstage

Roman Reigns and Paul Heymans are walking around backstage “Everything is in line, just let me handle this.” “If tyou need someone to watch your back, I gotchu.” Reigns says, “I know, I got this. I love you.” “Well let’s get a steak after the show then!” he shouts after Reigns as he walks away. Graves notes “something doesn’t smell right with all this.” Cole agrees.

Heavy Machinery vs Miz & Morrison

Otis brings his Money in the Bank briefcase with him as they make their way out. We go to commercial. Back from the break and our heels are out. I missed the first two minutes of this match due to technical difficulties but I’ll catch you up from here. Miz goes into the corner. Tucker throws two fists. Miz escapes but is sent into the corner. Tucker makes a tag and Otis comes in. Miz and Morrison take control of things. Miz hits a running knee as he tags in Morrison, who hits a boot and covers for a two count. Otis is taunted by the heels as they utilize fast tags to keep on top of things. Otis finally gets his second wind and hits a splash in the corner, pinning Miz for the win. As Heavy Machinery celebrates, Morrison grabs the Money in the Bank briefcase and runs up the ramp with it.

Winners: Heavy Machinery

Backstage w/ Big E

Big E is backstage with Lucha House Party, preparing a celebration, when a staff member comes over to inform Big E that Xavier Woods has arrived! E claps excitedly and moves backstage further to greet him. Sheamus attacks without warning, striking E in a passage way before hitting the Brogue Kick against Big E and the wall. Sheamus drags and beats Big E over to a car, then hits the White Noise on Big E on top of the car, flattening him into the windshield. Officials run up and yell for medics as we go to break.

Backstage w/ Big E, Part II

We return from commercial break to see officials and medics tending to Big E after Sheamus’ attack. Cole and Graves speculate this might have something to do with them fighting each other this past Sunday at Payback, and the fact that they’re opponents in tonight’s number one contender match. We cut back to the back with Kayla Braxton. Big E is still in his red track suit on the hood. Kayla speculates that he could have severe internal injuries when Sheamus walks back up. She asks him about the attack and he claims it was self defense. He says that she’s got some bad information. He then tells her that if you want to be in main events and fight for Universal championships, you’ve got to stay focused. Sheamus says he’s already thinking about dodging Riddle’s strikes and avoiding Corbin’s power. He says that Big E was probably thinking about laughing and dancing with his old friend. He says that it’s a shame, because this could have been a big night for Big E but what does he do? He lets his old friend drag him down again. Sheamus then claps and smiles, saying he’s got a big match tonight so he’s got to go. He walks off camera, then walks back on and adds “it’s probably going to be a triple-threat match tonight.

Commentary/Match Flo (Women’s Tag Team Championships from Payback)

Cole and Graves promise to have updates throughout tonight. They then hype the upcoming Women’s Tag Titles match as Big & Nasty will face the Golden Role Models in a rematch from Sunday, which saw Jax & Baszler win the titles off Bayley & Banks. Baszler used Sasha Bank’s arm to help choke out Bayley, causing Bayley to tap out. The Golden Role Models have lost three titles in less than two weeks, leaving only one belt.

Interview w/ Banks & Bayley

They’re asked about the tumultuous week they’ve had. Both women get snarky about it. Bayley says that before Payback, they’d never seen Jax & Baszler as a team together so they didn’t know how to prepare but tonight? They’re prepared to win their title back. Bayley is reminded that she’s been tapped out by Baszler the last three times she’s been in the ring with her. Banks interjects, all but singing Bayley’s accolades. Banks says that Bayley is the best in the world and she’s her best friend. She slaps the Smackdown Women’s title and says it’s time to go win their titles back and show everyone why they run the whole damn company. We go to commercial.

Backstage w/ Kayla Braxton & Adam Pearce

Kayla reports that she’s heard word that Big E cannot compete tonight. Pearce acknowledges this and says it will still be a fatal four-way, and they’re currently consulting with management as who it should be.

Women’s Tag Team Championship: Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler(c) vs Sasha Banks & Bayley

In her 329th day as champ (damn you, Michael Cole!) is Bayley, coming out with the Baws Sasha Banks as the Golden Role Models are angry and in no mood to play around. We’re reminded that WWE Clash of Champions: Gold Rush is brought to you by their broken game WWE Battle Grounds and Hyundai. Bayley and Sasha yell at the ThunderDome who are booing them. Out next is Nia Jax, then joined at the top of the ramp by her partner Shayna Baszler. Fun Fact: this is Nia Jax’s first time competing on Smackdown, ever! Shayna makes her entrance with her wicked awesome music, and the reigning, defending, undisputed women’s tag team champions of the world make their way to the ring! Big & Nasty are here to wreck faces! We see a picture-in-picture of our Smackdown tag team champions, Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro, who give props to the women’s tag team and then mock what happened to Big E. The announcer makes the introductions and the ref has to keep them separated as Bayley is full of smack talk, as is Sasha.

The bell rings and Jax & Baszler are arguing over who should start. Banks & Bayley attack them and send them from the ring. The Golden Role Models go for a pair of baseball slides but Jax and Baszler catch them by the legs, drag them out of the ring, then repeatedly sling him back and forth, smashing them against the barricade in an excellent exhibition of their power and prowess! We head to a commercial break on that note.

We return from commercial break and Baszler is still dominating Banks in this match-up! Banks runs toward Baszler to hit a Running Double Knee, Baszler rolls out of the way as Banks slams both knees into the ring post with a loud slam. Banks in instant agonizing pain! Baszler continues to assist Banks knees into the turnbuckle. Baszler with a blow to the back of Banks’ knee. Baszler sweeps Banks leg out from under her, continuing to focus on the injured leg of Banks who is shouting out in pain. Baszler to her feet, cheap shot on Bayley, knocking her off the apron. Baszler goes for the Karifuda Clutch on Bayley who enters the ring, Bayley to Belly takes Baszler out! Jax rips Bayley off the apron before breaking up the Banks Statement Sasha Banks was holding on Baszler. Jax is tagged in. Sunset Flip by Banks for the two count! Back to her feet, Banks on Jax’s shoulders. Jax climbs to the second rope. Bayley with the assist, helping Banks down. A Lateral Press to cover Banks and Bayley at the same time! The three count pin and win for Baszler and Jax!

Winners and STILL Women’s Tag-Team Champions: Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler

After the Match

WWE Medical personnel enter the ring to assist Sasha Banks out to ringside to examine Banks’ injuries more extensively as Banks is clearly writhing in pain. We head to commercial break as Jax and Baszler celebrate their first title defense VICTORY.

Bayley SNAPS On Banks!

Back from commercial break, Medical Staff looking to help Banks backstage to get medical help. Suddenly, Bayley has snapped! Bayley slams Banks into the steel stairs! Bayley looks to be ruining Da Boss!

Banks leans against the barricade and holds her arms up to cover her face in fear as Bayley slams Banks’ head off the barricade then into the ringside floor. Bayley throws Banks back into the ring and continues to stomp and brutally attack Banks. Bayley looks at Michael Cole, then asks, “Is it ‘Boss Time’ Michael?” as she slams Banks head first into the canvas.

“You deserve ALL Of this! ALL OF THIS!” Bayley shouts at Banks as she grabs Banks by the hair lifting her head up. Banks in tears as Bayley exits the ring, grabbing a steel chair. Cole asks, “Why?” as Bayley walks by with the chair. Bayley puts Banks injured leg into the folded chair. Banks kicks vigorously to try and get Bayley off of her. At this point, Sasha isn’t evening moving as Bayley drags her to the steel chair. Bayley puts Banks’s neck into the folded chair. Bayley to the top! Slamming down on the chair, breathing heavily with a sadistic look on her face! Banks has had enough! WTF?

Announcer’s Table

Michael Cole states, “Hopefully we will get an update on Banks medical condition before the show closes tonight.” Also maybe an answer from Bayley on why she did this.

In-Ring – Sami Zayn… Just, “Sami Zayn”

“Please welcome, Sami Zayn!” Zayn’s face drops, Zayn stops and asks Greg what’s going on Is it Evan? Evan give me your headset. Marty… Marty… when you put my graphic up, did you put Intercontinental Champion above my name? Why not? ….”

Jeff walks out and as “Jeff Hardy” comes up on the screen, “Intercontinental Champion” is written above his name (I guess it was in the notes…) Jeff states if Sami wanted a shot at the title “all he had to do was ask.” Sami looks befuddled and says, “no, YOU should have asked” they go back and forth until…

AJ Styles Enters

“How can you two run around with those belts over your shoulders KNOWING I am the uncrowned Intercontinental Champion here.” Hardy states Styles looks like he’s healed, if he wants a match, they could… Zayn interrupts, “Has everyone lost their minds?!”

Styles with a cheap shot on Hardy, Hardy blocks the Styles Clash and hits the Twist of Fate. Styles continues to throw Strikes at Hardy on the canvas as Zayn joins in hitting Hardy. Suddenly Styles turns and attacks Zayn. Zayn quickly escapes the ring with confusion all over his face!

Jey Uso does not belong in this match just because his cousin is the WWE Champion! He does not be…” Matt Riddle rolls out of the ring, running up the ramp towards Corbin.
