WWE Hall Of Famer Goldberg Comments On Vince McMahon; Says He Was A “Vince Guy”

Goldberg had multiple runs with WWE, first joining in 2003 for a year before leaving after WrestleMania XX. He made a return in 2016, capturing the WWE Universal Championship twice and wrestling sporadically from 2016 to 2022. However, he never got a WWE retirement match due to what happened to Vince McMahon.

McMahon initially stepped down from WWE in June 2023 following allegations of hush money and sexual misconduct. In January 2024, he officially resigned after a lawsuit was filed by former employee Janel Grant, accusing him of sexual assault and sex trafficking.

In an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, Goldberg was asked if he ever imagined a time when Vince wouldn’t be running WWE.

“No, not at all. Never. I never would’ve thought that would happen. It must have been something pretty intense to get him out of that role. But I’m not going to dive into it; it’s all an opinion, and I don’t give opinions. Facts are what matter, and people are judged by those facts. Vince was always great to me, except for not giving me my retirement match, but he couldn’t do that because he wasn’t with the company anymore. You have your ‘Vince guys’ and your non-Vince guys. I like to think I was a Vince guy. You treat people how you want to be treated, and he always showed me respect, so I did the same. If you’re looking for bad news about Vince or that situation, I can’t give it. I never thought there would come a day when either he or I wouldn’t be part of the company,” said Goldberg.

Goldberg has announced that his retirement match is scheduled for sometime in 2025.
