WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair seemingly put an end to rumors that he could possibly make an appearance at WrestleMania 41 by revealing that he is still under contract to AEW despite not appearing for the company in over a year. There have been some rumors that WWE could possibly bring in Flair during the John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes match as Cena looks to break Flair’s record of world titles. Speaking to Busted Open Radio, Flair noted:
“I work for another company. I’m sure I’d be more than welcome [at WrestleMania]. It’s competition. AEW opens up more opportunities for guys to work. If I wasn’t working with Tony, I would be absolutely be there. You couldn’t keep me out of the building.”
Flair didn’t reveal whether WWE sent out feelers asking for his participation at WrestleMania though it is believed that his contract with AEW wouldn’t necessarily prevent him from working with WWE. However, Flair appears to want to stay loyal to Tony Khan while under an agreement saying that Khan is “the greatest guy in the world” and that it would “very difficult” for him to work elsewhere while under a deal with Khan. It is believed that contract won’t run out until the fall of 2025.
WWE mentioned Flair by name during a recent Rhodes-Cena segment and he was also brought up during the Charlotte Flair-Tiffany Stratton promo on Smackdown last week.
’m not mad about it by any means. Every time WWE talks about the title record, my name gets mentioned. It keeps me relevant. It’s cool.”
“I’m extremely happy for John. I wish I could be there and shake his hand. I actually wanted Charlotte to break the record, but if he breaks it, more power to him. I cannot say enough good things about John Cena.”
