Report: WWE SummerSlam could be held at Amway Center in Orlando

WWE Looking At Amway Center As Potential Host For SummerSlam PPV On 8/23 (UPDATED)

The Amway Center in Orlando, Florida is being discussed behind-the-scenes in WWE lately as a potential host venue for some of their upcoming shows, specifically and most notably this month’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view scheduled for Sunday, August 23, 2020.

WWE appears to have abandoned its attempts to hold this year’s WWE SummerSlam PPV at a venue in the Northeast and instead focusing on a different location (not the Performance Center) within Florida.

Earlier this week, the WrestleVotes account confirmed that the PPV would not be at the PC while reported that it would be taking place in Florida, stopping short of an exact location.

Jon Alba of @SpecSports360 in the Orlando and Tampa area has added to the speculation by noting that he’s been told WWE is not only looking at Amway Center for their WWE SummerSlam PPV, but for other events moving forward as well.

The venue is currently “closed” until next year due to COVID-19 so it’s unclear if it would be an empty arena event again or if fans would be allowed in under strict social distancing rules.

While WWE hasn’t announced or confirmed anything yet, multiple sources are now reporting that a deal to move to SummerSlam next week to the Amway Center is pretty much a done deal but once it’s official, the company will release a statement. reports that at this point, no tickets are going to be sold for the PPV which would mean that those in attendance would strictly be WWE personnel.

The fact that there will be no fans also doesn’t put the pressure on the company to announce anything right away. adds that WWE is looking to move all their television shoots – Monday Night Raw, Friday Night Smackdown and WWE NXT – from the WWE Performance Center to the Amway Center as it is a much larger facility and gives the company significantly more freedom in terms of staging and production.

They also add that for the first time, WWE is considering using “virtual fans” as a possibility for SummerSlam and all future broadcasts, something that their partner FOX has been using for MLB.

Once again, we will keep you posted here at as details regarding this month’s WWE SummerSlam and other events changing host venues outside of the WWE Performance Center continues to surface!
