WWE Makes Major Change To Smackdown Writing Team; New Head Writer Effective Last Week

— There’s been a shuffle at the top of the Smackdown creative writing team with a new head writer at the helm beginning with last Friday’s episode which generated extremely positive reactions with fans and heavy praise backstage among officials.

— Fightfulselect.com reports that former head-writer for Smackdown, Ryan Callahan has parted ways with the company though it wasn’t stated whether Callahan was fired or if he decided to leave on his own decision. In his place, creative team member John Swikata has been promoted as the new lead writer as of earlier this week.

— The report adds that very little is publicly known bout Swikata outside that his official role prior to this week was listed as “senior writer”, however, a number of former writers have since reached out to provide a positive spin on Swikata’s relationship with others, suggesting that he’s been well liked for a long time. One WWE source pointed out that Swikata as the man in charge of Smackdown has already made a big impact on TV, and last Friday’s show – which again drew rave reviews – was referenced as a direct fallout of Swikata’s promotion.
