WWE Monday Night RAW: Payback Fallout (August 31, 2020)

Show Opening

The words “In Loving Memory of “Bullet” Bob Armstrong 1939-2020″ sit next to a picture of Armstrong before the WWE Forever logo flashes across the screen. Next the RAW opening theme song begins as the August 31, 2020 edition of WWE Monday Night RAW begins with pyro sounding off at the top of the stage.

We see fans in the “audience” on the hundred of screens in the ThunderDome are shown as the camera pans across the arena. Tonight’s show kicks off with The Legend Killer as Orton’s entrance theme sounds.

In-Arena – Randy Orton

“I hear voices in my head…” we hear Randy Orton’s entrance theme sound in the ThunderDome as Orton makes his way down the ramp towards the ring.

The commentary team discusses last night’s Payback pay-per-view event as Randy Orton’s music sounds the arena. They note Orton is most likely “in a foul mood” following his SummerSlam 2020 match last weekend, then Keith Lee defeating Orton at Payback 2020 just last night.

We see Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, and Samoa Joe sitting at the announcer’s table as Phillips sends us into a clip of Last Monday’s RAW where The Viper attacked the WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre backstage. Then later during Randy Orton vs. Keith Lee match, McIntyre interrupts the match attacking Orton. Finally, Orton sneaks up on McIntyre backstage during an interview with a kick to the skull causing a hairline jaw fracture.

Phillips announces there will be three singles matches tonight, the Winner of Each Competes Later Tonight In A Triple Threat Match To Earn The WWE Championship Opportunity:

* First, Keith Lee vs. Dolph Ziggler
* Then, the former Universal Champion Kevin Owens vs. Randy Orton
* Finally, Dominik Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins (original competitor Rey Mysterio is unable to fight due to injury from last night’s Payback match.)

In-Ring – Randy Orton

Orton stands in the ring, looking around as he begins, “Last Monday Night on RAW, Drew McIntyre offered me a re-match for the WWE Championship out of pity. I took that as a sign of disrespect, therefore I kicked him in the head.” Orton then states McIntyre only deserves the hairline fracture Orton gave him. As far as he’s concerned, Drew McIntyre deserves to feel pain every day of his life will sipping his meals through a straw.

Orton says Drew McIntyre stated he would deliver a Claymore Kick to Orton, knocking his head off. Orton then looks into the camera, stating, “The only person dishing out ‘kicks’ is the Legend Killer. You can ask, let’s see… Edge, Christian, Big Show, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels… you can ask Drew McIntyre himself!”

Orton says he shouldn’t have to fight anyone tonight, for his re-match for the chance at the WWE Championship. However Orton will jump through the hoops so he can meet McIntyre at Clash of Champions to win the title. Orton then says he has a picture of each superstar he’s kicked in the head. On the jumbotron a photoshopped picture of Flair, McIntyre, Big Show, Edge, Christian, and Shawn Michaels lined up in hospital gowns in hospital beds is shown.

Keith Lee Enters

“Oh bask in his glory!” The Limitless Keith Lee makes his way to the stage as his entrance theme sounds in the ThunderDome. Lee makes his descent down the ramp and enters the ring, matching the glare of Orton as he starts, “Mr. Orton.” Lee smiles and continues, “You’ve done well for yourself, I see you’re amused, proud even.”

“I gave you no other option than to bask in my glory. Yet you are out here talking about how a championship opportunity should be handed to you. But I think things are a little different now because maybe, just maybe my victory over a legend killer like you, that I should get an opportunity at the WWE Championship. Don’t get me wrong, I have known McIntyre a long time. I would even call him a good friend…”

Dolph Ziggler Sneak Attack!

Suddenly Keith Lee is cut off as Dolph Ziggler comes up from behind Lee and delivers a blow to the back of Lee. Lee attempts to shrug Ziggler off. Ziggler then follows up with a Big DDT as we head to out first commercial break of the evening!
