— After suffering an injury last week, Kofi Kingston has been pulled from tonight’s fatal five-way match on WWE’s Friday Night Smackdown, with partner Xavier Woods drawing in instead. While not much has been known about the specifics of the injury, in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was described as a “fluke” when Drew McIntyre did a running flip dive on several people and in the process, Kingston hurt his ankle.
— While no official statement on recovery has been released by either WWE or Kingston, the report goes onto state that it is expected to keep him sidelined for around five weeks, which (if true) would cause Kofi to miss WrestleMania 39 early next month. There was some concern that he would be gone for even longer if the injury turned out more serious than expected and requiring surgery and while that is still a possibility, Kingston has apparently privately told people that he won’t be needing to go under the knife.
