– WWE recently wrote off Matt Riddle from storylines, noting that he would be out of action for six weeks after getting attacked by Solo Sikoa on last week’s Monday’s Night Raw. Bodyslam.net reports that the real reason for Riddle’s ongoing absence is because he has violated the company’s Wellness Policy by failing a drug test – his second failed test within the last few months.
– Riddle’s first failed test reportedly came before SummerSlam, when WWE changed course on a scheduled match between him and Seth Rollins with the reported reason being simply that they went in a different creative decision. However, this report states that Riddle actually failed a drug test causing WWE to push back the match against Rollins to Clash at the Castle. The test was the last test administered under the Vince McMahon regime and when new leadership took over in the summer, they informed Riddle that his next violation would result in either mandatory rehab or a termination, similar to the stance they took with Jeff Hardy.
– Obviously WWE has not terminated him, but it is believed that Riddle has already entered into treatment or will be going in imminently. With most rehab programs running 30 days in duration, he would be finished before his six weeks injury storyline absence is up. WWE no longer tests for marijuana as part of their Wellness Policy so it’s unclear what Riddle actually tested positive for.
