— WWE superstar Randy Orton has been out of action for almost six months, last seen on WWE Monday Night Raw in late May. Since then he has been sidelined with a back injury that turned out more serious than initially thought and it was believed he would not be back for the balance of 2022.
— Fightfulselect.com is reporting that Orton’s return is still in considerable doubt and he remains out indefinitely. He underwent a procedure that required a fusion in his lower back at some point over the last few months and WWE sources are moving forward with the hope that he will be back at some point, but there are no guarantees. When he originally suffered the back injury, Orton was adamant that he would be back but with all the questions surrounding his future health, WWE has no timetable for a return and thus, no creative plans either. As for his contract status, Orton remains under WWE agreement through 2024 though it’s unclear if WWE would tack on additional length based on his ongoing inactivity as often the company will freeze contracts of performers who are not competing.
