WWE NXT: The Great American-Bash – Night One (7-1-20) Results

Show Opening

A video package airs highlighting all the action and the events leading up to the matches as 8:00 p.m. EST hits and the NXT WWE: The Great American Bash – Night One begins!

In Arena

The camera pans the arena as we enter the arena. Mauro Ranallo on commentary announces that Dusty Rhodes invented the Great American Bash and under the black and gold banner, NXT WWE: The Great American Bash – Night One welcomes us for tonight’s show!

Fatal Four-Way Match
Tegan Nox vs. Mia Yim vs. Dakotai Kai vs. Candice LeRae

Out first is Mia Yim to kick off tonight’s first match of the WWE NXT: The Great American Bash!We look up the ramp to the top of the stage as Dakota Kai makes her way down the ramp to the ring next for tonight’s match-up. Tegan Nox makes her way out next. Out last, Candice LeRae in her dark pixie get-up. The referee signals for the bell.

The bell rings and the match begins. Everyone looks at one another at first, no one stepping forward. Finally Yim heads in as well as and things are off! Kai with a big forearm! Awkward landing on the apron for Kai. Nox taking control of things.

As we head to the outside, we are reminded by commentary that pinfall or submission in the ring, only way to be victorious. German Suplex off the turnbuckle, Mia Yim almost gets the pin!

A big boot from Kai. Yim drops LeRae on the canvas face first for the pin. Yim eliminates LeRae as we head to our first commercial break!

As we return from commercial break, more back and forth action between the remaining three female superstars in this Fatal Four-Way match up! Yim clears the ring! Tope by Yim wiping out Nox. Back in the ring, Yim heads across the ring and over the top once again onto Kai! Yim drags Kai back in the ring.

Code Blue by Yim to eliminate Kai. Nox jumps in and rolls Yim up for a surprising two count! Kai rolls Yim up as she hits the canvas caught off guard looking out at Nox on the outside of the ring.

Kai immediately rolls into a bridge as Yim lay rolled up on the canvas, Kai getting the three count! Yim Eliminated By Kai . With Yim rolling out of the ring in disappointment, we head to commercial break once again!

As we return to the action from break once again, we hear the crowd begin to chant, “NXT! NXT! NXT!” Nox with a counter-shot to Kai as Kai gets a hard strike in! A series of Clotheslines by Nox onto Kai. Nox dominates Kai at this point. European Uppercut by Kai to finally catch a break!

Nox gets a hard strike directly to the face of Kai. Kai goes for the Back Press, using her brace for leverage. Nox with a look of shock as Kai kicks out once again after Nox locks in a Bridge Cover. Nox unsure what to do next as Kai rolls back and forth on the canvas in pain.

Nox goes to head to the top turnbuckle, Kai has her scouted, launching Nox back into the ring. the Kai-ropractor. Nox kicks out of the cover! The crowd begins to chant, “NXT! NXT! NXT!” once again.

Kai helps Nox back to her feet then lands a Strike, then another Strike to the back of Nox. Kai then lands multiple Stomps. Kai eats a kick from Nox. Kai lands Nox face first on the canvas. Kai kicks out once again. Nox shakes her head in disbelief.

Nox looks for the Shiniest Wizard, Kai then looks for the victory, Nox screaming in a pain as Kai locks her ankles, Nox leans on Kai for a cover, then finally both release and back to their feet.

The Molly Go Round on Kai followed by the Shiniest Wizard. Nox gets the cover, the referee counts to three, it’s over!

Winner: Tegan Nox

After the Match

On surgically repaired knees, Tegan Nox stands tall in victory following her win for the #1 Contender Spot for the championship against Io Shirai! We head to replays.

Backstage: Sasha Banks

We get a look backstage where Sasha Banks is preparing for her match later tonight as she spars with her WWE SmackDown Women’s Tag-Team Partner and best friend, WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion: Bayley.

Timothy Thatcher vs. Oney Lorcan

Out first for this one-on-one match up is Timothy Thatcher as his music sounds in the arena. Thatcher makes his way down the ramp and enters the ring. Out next is Olney Lorcan who quickly heads down the ramp and enters the ring with his opponent.

The referee signals for the bell, the bell rings and the match begins. Both men immediately head in exchanging blows and quick technique. Thatcher hits a Bow and Arrow Stretch on Lorcan, Lorcan rolls a bit for the cover, both men back to their feet. Lorcan attempts to lock in the Scissor Lock on Thatcher who makes his way back to his feet.

Thatcher attempts to lift Lorcan with one arm. Lorcan and Thatcher in an arm control battle, Lorcan behind Thatcher applying pressure. Uppercut by Thatcher sends Lorcan flying out of the ring as we head to commercial.

Suplex followed by a European Uppercut for the two count by Lorcan, Thatcher kicking out and quickly heading back to his feet. The two exchange Chops and European Uppercuts. Lorcan gets that familiar look on his face as he begins to throw strikes with both his left and right, knocking Thatcher to the canvas.

Lorcan manuevers Thatcher into the Boston Crab in the center of the ring as Thatcher struggles to get to the bottom rope. Thatcher gets the reverse, tying up the knee of Lorcan as he applies pressure. Lorcan escapes as Thatcher goes for an Arm Bar. Thatcher knocks down Lorcan with a right.

A Suplex into the cover, craddling for the two by Thatcher. Thatcher once again trying to get a submission with the Sugar Hold, Lorcan with a desperation move, The Fish Hook. Thatcher releases then heads in with the Fujimora. Lorcan is forced to tap! Thatcher doesn’t let go even after the bell!

Winner: Timothy Thatcher

After the Match

Thatcher extends Lorcan’s shoulder as the bell rings, Thatcher refusing to let go as the bell rings again. Finally, Thatcher sits up with a sadistic smile on his face.

“Do you know how to read between the lines?” Kross begins as a video airs flashing with clocks, hourglasses, crowd, cards, and other images flash across the screen. Finally a Tarot card shows as Kross finishes, “It isn’t about what you put in, it’s about what you take away.” The video ends.

2 on 1 Handicap Match
Rhea Ripley vs. Aliyah (and Robert Stone)

We return to the arena and the music sounds for Rhea Ripley as we see Ripley at the top of the ramp, hitting her stomp on the beat drop as she heads down the ramp and struts around the ring. Ripley enters the ring waiting on her opponents.

Out next the two opponents of Rhea Ripley make their way down the ramp, Aliyah leading her manager Robert Stone down the ramp and towards the ring. We remind that if Ripley is defeated, she will be forced to join the Robert Stone Brand.

The referee signals for the bell, the bell rings and this match is underway! Stone removes his robe and spars, punching the hands of Aliyah with horrible form, he then adds goggles, a mouth piece, and yanks his trunks up to his chest.

Stone pushes Aliyah back and says he’s got this. “You… and me” as he points to Ripley. Stone quick steps as he shuffles around the ring, touches his toes, Ripley with a strike and Stone immediately rolls out of the ring. Aliyah left to do the dirty work of Stone. Aliyah hits a take down on Ripley, Stone neutralizing Ripley in the corner.

Aliyah gets a pin attempt. Ripley kicks out. Aliyah off the ropes, spinning around Ripley, Ripley uses her strength to count, peeling off Aliyah with one arm. Ripley with the Electric Chair putting Aliyah face first for a pin attempt of her own. Stone pulls Ripley off at the count of two. Ripley sends Stone crashing to the outside.

Aliyah out of nowhere lands on Ripley as she walks towards Stone on the outside. Aliyah rolls Ripley back into the ring as we head to commercial break.

As we return from commercial break, the match continues to favor the Robert Stone Brand. Aliyah once again goes in for the pin on Ripley. Robert Stone continues to give Aliyah advice. Ripley back to her feet, lands a Double Suplex as she hoists both Stone and Aliyah in the air at once!

Vicious Head Butt by Ripley on Stone as she attempts to knock some sense into Stone! Ripley drops Aliyah face first into the crotch of Stone Ripley gets a Double Prism Drop on both Stone and Aliyah, forcing both to tap!

Winner: Rhea Ripley (by submission)

After the Match

Robert Stone and Aliyah trip their way up the ramp as they look back at a laughing Rhea Ripley in the ring.

Strap Match
Dexter Lumis vs. Roderick Strong

“Tell me about your problem, Roderick.” a voice is heard speaking to Strong. Strong replies, “Dexter. Lumis.” Strong goes on to state it’s the constant staring, Dexter Lumis. Visions of Strong being tortured by Lumis flash throughout the video as Strong explains his fears of Lumis. The trunk closes on Strong as the video ends.

We return to the arena directly in the face of Strong as the trunk slam sounds, Strong’s eyes open. Strong makes his way down the ramp and enters the ring as his music continues. Out next is Dexter Lumis as his monotone sinister music plays, echoey and strange. Lumis makes his way down the ramp and enters the ring as well. Lumis crawls across the ring, Strong immediately exits.

An echo of “Luuuu-mis. Luuuu-mis.” is heard throughout the arena. Strong demands Lumis step back in order for him to return to the ring. “Hey, back up!!” The referee attempts to put the strap on Strong who wasn’t ready. Strong finally looking ready, the referee steps in and Strong runs at Lumis, sucker punching him and attacking him with multiple strikes.

Lumis fights back and puts his strap on. The referee finally gets the strap on Strong as well, the bell rings and the match officially begins. Lumis continues to pull on the strap, striking Strong. Strong rolls out of the ring, Lumis continues to yank on the strap, pulling Strong into the ring apron over and over. Lumis heads to the outside, Strong ends up landing strikes with the strap on the back of Lumis. Lumis counters and rolls Strong back in the ring, hitting a Stomp on Strong.

A boot to the neck of Strong, followed by a Back Body Drop by Lumis. The crowd claps. Lumis with another Stomp followed by a Kick, ending with several Strikes in the corner of the ring.

A Forearm by Strong on Lumis. Lumis counters and Strong exits the ring. Lumis drags Strong back in by the strap.

Bobby Fish comes down later in the match to assist Roderick Strong (as there are no disqualifications). Strong builds  back up and continues to build until Lumis finally gets his hands on Strong, the strap around the mouth of Strong who ultimately tapped out.

Winner: Dexter Lumis

After the Match

It is reminded that this was a historic match as it was the first ever Strap Match in the NXT. We go to replays as Lumis’s trippy music sounds in the arena.

Video Package – Keith Lee and Adam Cole

We head into a video package with Keith Lee, voicing over clips of Lee at multiple different pay-per-views. He calls NXT the N-X-Lee. Lee states he’s had his sights on for a long time, and has waited patiently. “I don’t want to overlook anything. Adam Cole, bay-bay, I offer, I respect, I offer my congratulations on your dare I say, legendary, win.

We then see Cole as he state Lee is amazing, and states not many can say they’ve had a better year than Keith Lee, except Cole. Cole then turns the compliments to himself and claiming everything is because of him. “I am the one responsible for anyone’s success” Cole states. “I am the greatest champion in this brand.” Cole ends the video stating when the chips are down, he prevails, that’s why he’s the longest reigning champ in NXT, and that… is UN-Disputed. Lee interjects that that may be undisputed, but Lee, is Un-Stoppable!

Backstage – Io Shirai

We see Io Shirai getting prepared backstage as the match for Shirai and Sasha Banks is announced to be coming up after the break. We head to commercial.

Backstage Interview – Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae

Candice LeRae is asked how she felt about how she felt after the Fatal Four-Way Match earlier tonight. LeRae still upset states she thought it was a Fatal Four-Way Match, not a “Gang up on Candice LeRae” match. LeRae suddenly runs off as Gargano begins to speak.

Gargano stops mid-sentence as he’s reiterating LeRae’s sentiment and adds, “She’s… amazing.” The camera follows Gargano who is walking up behind LeRae as she continues to throw strikes.

In-Ring – Fantasma

Fantasma makes his way down the ramp and enters the ring, putting himself over. Finally, Drake Maverick’s music sounds as Maverick makes his way down to the ring to tell his side of things. The discussion is cut short as the two begin to brawl, Fantasma’s posse attacks Maverick as well, finally holding him by the arms in the center of the ring as Fantasma spoke.

Fantasma looks into the eyes of Drake Maverick as he’s being held in place on the canvas, “I told you… little guy. No one can touch me.” Brazango suddenly comes out to the aid of Maverick. “Next week at night number two, you’re going to have no place to run and hide!” Message by Fandango as Fantasma stands at the top of the ramp, heading backstage.

Backstage – Cameron Grimes

Cameron Grimes shoots a promo with a very thick southern accent backstage hyping himself before we head to commercial break.

Commentary notes that Sasha Banks vs. Io Shirai is coming up right after the break! We head to commercial.

Mercedes Martinez announces she will be back for WWE NXT: The Great American Bash (Night Two)

The announcement is made that Mia Yim and Candice LeRae will compete in a brutal street fight, next week at WWE NXT: The Great American Bash – Night Two.

Champion vs. Champion Non-Title Match
WWE Women’s Tag-Team Champion Sasha Banks vs. NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai

Out first for this main event of the WWE NXT: Great American Bash is Da Boss herself, Sasha Banks. Banks is accompanied by her best friend, WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, Bayley. Out next is Io Shirai as her music sounds in the arena. Shirai makes her way down the ramp and enters the ring. the referee signals for the bell. The bell rings and the match begins. Banks backs Shirai into the corner to kick things off! Back and forth action inside the ring between both champions! Basement Dropkick by Shirai sending Banks to ringside!

Shirai steamrolls Sasha Banks! Shirai with a Springboard Missile Dropkick for the cover. Banks kicks out at two. Shirai looking shocked as she sits up. Shirai looks to be injured as she turns towards Banks. Shirai with the Double Underhook, fought off by Banks, the two go bac and forth. Shirai with a German Suplex, Banks tries to land on her feet, landing on the top of her head. Shirai goes again, Banks reverses for an attempted Banks Statement. Banks attempts to hook her left arm, Shirai rolls up Banks, Banks counters. Shirai rolls up Banks hitting a Double Stomp on Banks. Banks sitting in the corner, Shirai Double Knees then headed to the top turnbuckle as Banks gets back to her feet. Banks flips Shirai upside down. Banks mocks an upside down Shirai as she trash talks her. Banks crawls in close and Shirai strikes, Banks with a kick then heads to the opposite side of the ring running at Shirai who sits up causing Banks to hit the bottom turnbuckle. Shirai eats a big boot, Banks with a Double Knee Drop on Shirai, Shirai with a reversal, these girls are fighting hard! Both women struggle back to their feet. Banks looks injured, falling on the bottom rope, Shirai looking for the 619, stopping short as Banks moves, the two throw strikes over the top rope. Shirai knocking Banks to her knees. Shirai jumps to the top rope. Bayley screaming with glee on the outside. Sunset Flip by Banks over the apron, Banks slams Shirai into the Plexiglas, then thrown to the ground at ringside. Banks heads back into the ring as the crowd chants, “You don’t go here!” Banks off the top, Shirai with the reversal and the Crossface! Bayley shouting to her best friend. Shirai trying to keep it locked in. Banks throws the title belt in, as the belt flips over the referee, Bayley hits Shirai without the ref seeing, then Bayley plays tug of war to keep the referee’s attention. Suddenly Asuka stands up as Banks sits up, spitting the blinding dust in her eyes. Shirai to the top with a Moonsault for the three count!

Winner: Io Shirai
