It’s Tyr’s Day!
It’s the day before Wednesday, some will comprehend the meaning of that. WWE NXT is LIVE tonight from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, with the action kicking off at 8pm EST on The CW. Four matches have been officially announced for tonight’s show, including two championship defenses as Kelani Jordan puts the NXT Women’s Championship on the line against Jaida Parker and Jackson Drake defends the NXT North American Championship against Tavion Heights. We’ll also begin determining the next challenger for Grayson Waller’s NXT Championship, while Noam Dar & Romeo Moreno battle The Creed Brothers. Sounds like an entertaining card, folks, and we’ll have that and more at the top of the hour! Update 7:58pm: the show’s about to begin. Nothing late-breaking that I can tell. Stay put!
Welcome to WWE NXT!
Vic Joseph and Booker T welcome us to a rowdy Performance Center and NXT. We waste no time getting things started!
NXT Women’s Championship Match: Kelani Jordan (c) vs. Jaida Parker
Miss Parker is out first and, as we all know, she don’t play. Out next is our champion, Kelani Jordan, making her first title defense since capturing the NXT Women’s Championship at Heatwave. Mike Rome gives us our official introductions ahead of our 8:05pm bell!
We start off with both Superstars locking up, settling into a slow and steady, slightly technical pace that allows both women to shine during a lengthy back-and-forth sequence. Parker looks for an early pin, but Jordan isn’t having any of that. The action continues evenly for several moments before our challenger begins to take a slow, deliberate lead as we head into our first commercial break of the night!
The action remains back and forth during the break. Jordan begins to show signs of anger and agitation as she strikes away at Parker. Jordan begins working Parker on the mat, using leg drops and elbow drops to soften up the challenger. Parker begins to fight back with chops and right hands, battling the champ against the ropes before whipping her across the ring. Parker ducks down for a back body drop, but Jordan has it scouted and drops her with a swinging neckbreaker. Jordan applies a working hold to Parker’s neck before dropping elbows across the neck and right shoulder, trying to wear the challenger down as we return from break.
Jordan and Parker continue to battle back and forth, with the action eventually winding up on the middle turnbuckles. The champion sets up for a Spanish Fly, but Parker shoves her off before diving from the middle rope and catching Jordan with a flying clothesline. Both Superstars are down for a few moments before rising and slugging it out. Parker grabs the upper hand after chaining together a series of lariats, then connects with a ripcord short-arm lariat to a nice pop from the crowd. Parker sends the champion into the corner, but Jordan isn’t going down without a fight and tries to battle free with elbows. Parker grabs her ankle and sends her face-first into the canvas before firing up again, planting Jordan with a beautiful Falcon Arrow for a near fall.
Jordan powers back to a vertical base and looks for a rear waistlock suplex, but Parker floats over and attempts a roll-up. Jordan answers with a low-angle crossbody on a seated Parker, but Parker rolls through into a cover of her own. Jordan kicks out, but Parker immediately transitions into a Rings of Saturn submission and repeatedly wrenches back on the hold. Jordan refuses to tap. Parker rolls to reposition, but Jordan manages to shift her weight and force Parker’s shoulders toward the mat, leaving the challenger with no choice but to break the hold to avoid being pinned.
Parker stays on the attack, working Jordan over in the corner before setting up another burst of offense. Jordan has it scouted, countering and catching Parker with a springboard leg drop. Parker rolls to the outside, but Jordan follows with a springboard moonsault from the middle rope to the floor. Jordan sends Parker back inside, heads up top and looks for a 450 Splash, but Parker moves out of the way.
Parker scoops up the recovering champion and plants her with a Samoan Drop. She quickly sends Jordan into the corner and drapes her across the middle ropes, then looks for Hypnotic. Jordan avoids it and fires back with the One of a Kind Split Legged Moonsault, quickly covering Parker for the win at 8:15pm!
Your Winner AND STILL NXT Women’s Champion, Kelani Jordan! (10 minutes)
Backstage: Myles Borne & Tavion Heights Drama
We get a pre-recorded social media video from Myles Borne, who questions his recent decision to betray Tavion Heights. Borne again explains his reasoning, saying he believed Heights would eventually betray him first, but after seeing Tavion’s segment last week, he’s having serious second thoughts. Borne then tells Tavion that he meant it when he said he believed Heights would become a champion and wishes him good luck tonight. Backstage, Heights watches the message and appears conflicted.
Tag Team Match: Noam Dar & Romeo Moreno vs. The Creed Brothers
We get clips from yesterday, where Romeo Moreno & Noam Dar approached NXT General Manager Robert Stone to ask about the recently returned Creed Brothers. Stone explains that he brought Julius & Brutus Creed back to help freshen up the NXT tag team division — not to attack people from behind — and ultimately made tonight’s match official.
Dar & Moreno make their way out as we head to break! We return to the ring to see Dar & Moreno awaiting their opponents. The Creed Brothers make their way out, and we get the opening bell at 8:25pm.
Romeo Moreno and Brutus Creed spend the opening moments feeling each other out, with commentary emphasizing just how angry Dar & Moreno remain after last week’s vicious assault at the hands of the Creed Brothers. The action goes back and forth before Moreno sneaks in a slap on Julius, firing Brutus up. Moreno tags in Noam Dar, and the pair work together to drop Brutus before using quick tags to effectively isolate him in their corner of the ring.
The referee briefly loses control as Moreno applies a modified crossface to Brutus while Dar looks for a choke on Julius. Julius eventually powers free and throws Dar onto Moreno, breaking the hold on his brother. The Creeds charge their opponents, but Dar & Moreno both drop down and pull the top rope down, sending Julius & Brutus spilling to the outside. Dar & Moreno then climb onto the apron and work together to take out the Creeds, using kicks before tandem high-flying attacks wipe out both brothers.
Julius charges Dar, but Dar avoids him, sending Julius crashing into the steel steps. Dar follows with a standing dropkick as we head to break!
We return from break to find both teams firing up. This is a solid match, folks, and you should watch it. Both teams execute some impressive high spots, with Noam Dar & Romeo Moreno staying aggressive throughout. The Creed Brothers ultimately manage to pick up the big win at 8:38pm, but Dar & Moreno looked strong AF in the loss.
Your Winners, The Creed Brothers! (13 minutes)
In the Ring: Charlie Dempsey Tries to Recruit Zilla Fatu, Again
Charlie Dempsey gets on the mic and states that he’ll never compromise his ideals to “play the game” like most of the NXT locker room. He says that when he was asked to form BirthRight, it was simply too good of an offer to pass up. All they want to do is make the business what it should be. BirthRight represents a fresh start for Dempsey and an opportunity to prove that he’s the “best damn grappler in this entire company.” Instead, he says he comes out here every week and BirthRight is treated like a joke. Last week, their one shred of credibility was taken away, and Dempsey says it’s time to force this company to get back to worrying about the real wrestlers who are the backbone of the business — not washed-up would-be football players. Dempsey says there’s nobody in the locker room who can step up to BirthRight, especially not Zilla Fatu. He tells Fatu that he has something BirthRight needs and that, if he joins them, they can put him on the path to becoming a superstar. Dempsey offers to leave last week’s animosity in the past and start fresh.
BirthRight knows what it’s like to live in a family member’s shadow, Dempsey says, and this is Fatu’s opportunity to step out of those shadows and into his own light. Zilla Fatu makes his way out with a mic. He admits that a lot of what Dempsey said is true and acknowledges that he can’t out-wrestle Charlie. Fatu says he appreciates the invitation, but he’s not one of the ones — he’s the Main One. So just like last week, his answer isn’t hello. It’s more like hell no.
The rest of BirthRight — Lexis King, Uriah Connors, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo and Arianna Grace — emerge and surround the ring. They tell Fatu they’re no longer asking him to join; they’re telling him. Fatu tries to fight them off, but the numbers quickly overwhelm him. Grace gets involved during an attempted comeback, allowing BirthRight to regain control and continue a prolonged beatdown around ringside. BirthRight eventually puts Fatu through the announce table to massive boos. They rip away what’s left of his shirt and mock him over the wreckage as we head to break.
NXT North American Championship Match: Jackson Drake (c) vs. Tavion Heights
Tavion Heights is out first. Out next is NXT North American Champion Jackson Drake, accompanied by his Vanity Project stablemates Brad Baylor, Ricky Smokes and Myka Lockwood. We get our official introductions ahead of our 9:01pm bell! Both Superstars lock up, with Heights easily overpowering Drake and taking him down to the mat with a German Suplex. Heights starts off aggressive and technical, constantly changing holds and looking for leverage. Drake manages to get some offense in, but it’s all Heights during our opening moments. Heights sends Drake to the outside and runs against the opposite ropes, but Myka Lockwood trips him while the referee’s attention is elsewhere! Heights immediately heads outside and attacks Lockwood in retaliation, but the distraction gives Drake the opening he needs to attack Heights from behind. Drake is bleeding from the mouth as he holds up two fingers and showcases the damage to the camera, sending us to our sponsored break.
We return from break to find challenger and champion clashing. Drake appears to injure his left ankle during a sequence and removes his boot. Heights immediately tries to press the advantage, relentlessly targeting the champion’s injured left ankle. Drake rolls to the outside in an attempt to escape the assault, but Heights gets a little sloppy and gives Drake an opening. The champion grabs Heights and sends him face-first into the steel ring post! Drake begins stomping away at Heights on the outside before taking the action back into the ring as the referee warns both men. Drake tries to work some feeling back into his left foot, but the ankle continues giving him trouble and he collapses again. Vic Joseph points out on commentary that the champion can’t get back to his feet and questions whether the referee may eventually have to stop the match. Despite the injury, Drake continues to control Heights for the moment, pounding the challenger with elbow drops across the right shoulder. Heights finally finds his opening by grabbing Drake’s injured left ankle and wrenching away as the champion winces in pain. Heights and Drake begin battling from their knees, slowly rising back to a vertical base while exchanging strikes.
Heights strings together a series of shots, followed by several clotheslines and a huge overhead Belly-to-Belly Suplex! Heights charges, but runs straight into a big boot from Drake. The champion follows with a German Suplex, bridging into a pin attempt, but Heights kicks out! Drake again tries to rub some feeling back into his injured left foot before keeping up the pace and aggressively taking the fight to the challenger. The battle moves onto the apron, where Drake uses his good right foot to repeatedly pound away at Heights’ chest. Heights catches the fourth kick and responds with a German Suplex that sends Drake crashing onto the apron — the hardest part of the ring! Heights gets the champion back inside and covers, but Drake kicks out.
Drake quickly answers with a crucifix roll-up, but Heights escapes. Both Superstars then put together an excellent sequence of counters until Heights charges directly into a rising knee from the champion! Drake heads to the top rope and connects with a 450 Splash, putting Heights away fair-and-square at 9:13pm!
Your Winner AND STILL NXT North American Champion, Jackson Drake! (12 minutes)
After the match, we see Myles Borne watching from the crowd. Tavion Heights sees him but wants nothing to do with him and leaves.
In the Ring: Women’s North American Champion Zaria Addresses the NXT Universe
Zaria makes her way out to a mixed reaction from a hot crowd. She gets on the mic and starts off by complaining that, for the longest time, there was always someone or something standing between her and championship gold. She calls Sol Ruca “dead weight” that was holding her back and tells the NXT Universe that she’s knocked down every one of their favorites. Zaria says she went on to unify the titles at Heatwave, getting the redemption she wanted. The Speed Championship is now in the past, and it’s time for Zaria to prove she’ll be the most dominant Women’s North American Champion in NXT history. Izzi Dame interrupts from the balcony, telling Zaria that she’s fake and that all of this newfound confidence is nothing more than an act. Dame says Zaria has become everything she once hated and vows to expose her for who she really is.
Thea Hail makes her way out and immediately runs down Dame before turning her attention toward Zaria. Hail says it’s her time to get a championship opportunity and wants to prove that her previous, somewhat accidental title victory wasn’t just a one-hit wonder. Zaria tells Hail she’ll never become champion again because she’s always depended on other people. Hail fires back that Zaria is simply jealous because she doesn’t have a real friend like Hail does. Zaria warns Hail that she needs to learn her friends will always leave her.
Hail fires back with the kill shot: she’ll get over that when Zaria gets over Sol Ruca! An enraged Zaria charges Hail, but Thea gets the upper hand and manages to lock the Women’s North American Champion in a submission. Zaria taps! This isn’t a match, so there’s obviously no victory to record, but Hail has just forced the champion to submit in the middle of the ring. Hail celebrates as Zaria fumes, ending the segment.
Backstage: Myles Borne Gets Some Advice From Hank & Tank
Backstage, Myles Borne remains upset and confused over everything that’s happened with Tavion Heights. Hank Walker & Tank Ledger tell Borne that if he really wants to make things right, he needs to apologize to Heights face-to-face. Borne considers their advice and says maybe he’ll do exactly that next week!
Six-Man Tag Team Main Event Match: Tony D’Angelo, Mason Rook & Saquon Shugars vs. EK Prosper, Cruz Montana & Keanu Carver
Just a reminder: the winning trio will square off against one another in a No. 1 Contender’s Triple Threat Match next week, with the winner earning a shot at the NXT Championship. So while all six men are incentivized to work together tonight, whoever wins will become opponents next week. Mason Rook is out first, followed by Saquon Shugars and then the Don of NXT, Tony D’Angelo. NXT Champion Grayson Waller makes his way out to watch the action, and we head to break! We return from break as EK Prosper makes his way out first. We’re informed that Waller will be joining commentary as our special guest for the main event. This should be hilarious. Waller immediately refuses to sit next to Vic Joseph, pointing out that Vic has no rings — unlike Booker T. Out next is Keanu Carver, followed by Cruz Montana, and we get our opening bell at 9:47pm! Waller says the NXT men’s division is the hottest division in wrestling right now because he’s the one firing everybody up. The referee allows a lot of latitude here, and this starts off about as chaotically as you’d expect. Eventually, things settle down with Saquon Shugars and EK Prosper going at it in the ring. Prosper’s athleticism is on full display early as he uses his speed to stay one step ahead.
Shugars tags in Keanu Carver, who immediately tries to overpower Prosper. Prosper uses his quickness to stay alive, but Carver cuts him off before he can make a tag. Carver whips Prosper into the ropes and catches him with a huge running shoulder block that sends Prosper flying across the ring! Prosper manages to recover and tags in Mason Rook. Rook and Carver clash, with Carver dropping the big man hard to the mat. Carver is looking dominant, so naturally he tags in Cruz Montana. Rook takes control and brings in Tony D’Angelo. Rook & D’Angelo try to double-team Montana, but Cruz catches both men with a double cutter to wipe them out. D’Angelo and Montana battle for a few moments before Cruz tags Prosper back in. Prosper & Montana look for some double-team offense, but D’Angelo shuts it down and slams Prosper hard into the mat. Things start getting chaotic again as the tags become more frequent. Montana looks for a cover, but Tony D hits the ring to make the save, setting off a wild sequence as all six men begin battling inside the ring. The referee continues allowing plenty of latitude as order completely breaks down. Prosper eventually takes to the skies, diving from the top rope and nearly putting Shugars away with a close cover attempt as we head to break at 9:51pm!
We return from break at 9:55pm to find EK Prosper with a sleeper locked in on Saquon Shugars. Shugars manages to escape and desperately looks for the hot tag. Vic Joseph declares that it’s a new day in NXT and these Superstars are taking things to a new level. Brother, I do not think they’re watching NXT for your digs. Put that shit on Raw or SmackDown. The action continues with Cruz Montana pairing off with Mason Rook for a spell. Montana’s team works in tandem as they attempt to isolate Rook in their corner. The trio then execute a sweet spot at 9:57pm, with Cruz Montana & Keanu Carver hitting a double Superplex off the top before EK Prosper follows with a diving attack from the adjacent corner. I cannot do it justice with words.
Tony D’Angelo eventually hits the ring and begins clearing house with a series of big suplexes and powerslams. The Don looks to pick up the win, but Carver makes the save. Once again, the referee loses control as all six men start hitting signature moves and diving spots on anyone unfortunate enough to be in their path. Prosper looks for a moonsault on D’Angelo inside the ring, but Tony avoids it and blasts Prosper with a huge Spear! D’Angelo follows with a Chokeslam, but Mason Rook slaps Tony on the shoulder to tag himself in. The Don takes exception, and Rook responds by attacking his own partner! Rook picks D’Angelo up and crushes him with a Cannonball in the corner! Rook then covers Prosper and picks up the win for his team at 9:59pm EST! That means Tony D’Angelo, Mason Rook & Saquon Shugars will square off against one another next week in a Triple Threat Match to determine the new No. 1 Contender to Grayson Waller’s NXT Championship! After the match, D’Angelo demands answers from Rook as the victorious trio argues amongst themselves while Waller sits back and soaks it all in.
Your Winners, Tony D’Angelo, Mason Rook & Saquon Shugars! (12 minutes)
