Video Package Last Week

Tonight’s edition of WWE NXT kicks off with a video package that recaps last week.

Non-Title Match
Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch (NXT Tag Team Champions) vs. Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher

We head into the Capitol Wrestling Center as the NXT Tag-Team Champions Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan make their way to the stage. The two champs make their way down the ramp and enter the ring as they await their opponents for the evening. Out next is Tommaso Ciampa and then Timothy Thatcher. The referee in the center of the ring and signals for the bell. The bell rings and the match begins!

The match gets underway with Thatcher and Burch starting the action! A Side headlock takeover is counted into a near fall before Thatcher goes for an arm lock. He has to release it when they get into the ropes. Bad News Barrett is relishing the action in the ring, referring to his countrymen as “Trans-Atlantic brawlers.”

Thatcher and Burch back in action as the two continue to duke it out inside the ring, throwing uppercuts into they push their way into the face corner so Ciampa can tag in. They push their way to the opposite corner and Lorcan tags himself in too. Lorcan throws a chop after a ref break and Ciampa looks at him like he’s stupid, then UNLOADS with a couple chops of his own. Lorcan grabs Ciampa by the beard, but he breaks free and they counter each other move for move until Ciampa hits a knee to Lorcan.

Burch tries to interfere and Ciampa teases a suicide dive, but Thatcher gives him an uppercut on the outside. Thatcher tags in and gets a near fall before it’s broken by a fish hook and a chop block to the left knee. Burch tags back in and hits a clothesline. Thatcher rolls outside to sell the impact and teases that his knee is jacked up in the process. Ciampa runs over to check on him and the ref comes out of the ring too as we go to commercial.

As we return from commercial break, and we see that Thatcher has made his way back into the ring. Lorcan is in the ring focusing on the leg of Thatcher as the match continues! Thatcher finally able to kick Lorcan away and Burch heads to his corner to make the tag. At this point he goes straight for the leg. Thatcher kicks him away too and dives for Ciampa to make the tag to enter into the match. To start off, Ciampa immediately cleans house on everybody in sight. He lays in right hands in the face corner to Burch and tags Thatcher so he can add uppercuts. They keep tagging each other in to soften Burch up. Thatcher throw Burch and applies a sleeper. Lorcan tries to break it up and fails.

Both heels take a series of closes fists to the chest. Eventually Ciampa is knocked out so the heels can work Thatcher two on one but he gets back to brawl and all four men wind up laying on the pretty black mat selling. Imperium have made their way to the entrance ramp and are standing there watching the action. The distraction of their arrival prevents Thatcher from making a hot tag to Ciampa, and Ciampa himself gets knocked off the apron when Lorcan tags in. Lorcan and Burch hit their assisted spike DDT and get the three count as the NXT wrestlers watching boo.

Winners: Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch

In-Ring – Roderick Strong

Next we hear the entrance theme for Undisputed Era’s Roderick Strong, as he is making his way to the ring. We once again head to commercial break!

As we return from commercial break, Strong begins on the mic, “Adam Cole… get your ASS out here RIGHT NOW! Adam, if any single one of us, ever meant a THING to you, just a little bit… PLEASE get out here, RIGHT NOW!”

Finn Balor Joins

With that statement, Undisputed Era’s music sounds, “When are you going to learn?” Balor begins. The crowd pops as Finn Balor makes his way to the stage with a microphone in hand. Finn continues, “Adam Cole is NOT gonna come out here for you. What do you think? Adam is gonna come out here and offer some explanation?” as Balor makes his way into the ring. Roderick cuts him off stating Undisputed Era was doing perfectly fine until BALOR showed up. Strong then adds he believes this all to be Balor’s fault. Balor responds it isn’t his fault, their “brotherhood” fell apart because of this title. “I know how to get Adam out here… next week Adam Cole vs. Finn Balor for the NXT Championship!” Balor states.

Balor adds, “As for you Roddy, you’ll never be a leader, you’ll always be a follower. Until you get a little more greedy and a little more selfish, and until you do, you’ll never…” Strong cuts him off by attacking him inside the ring. NXT officials attempted to break the two up, powering them into opposite corners. The crowd begins an “NXT! NXT!” chant. Balor continues trying to stomp at Roderick as he is exited from the ring.

Announcer’s Desk

The commentary team then notes that Roderick Strong is blinded by emotion, but picking a fight with Balor isn’t the right answer to solve the problem. Vic tells us Wade is a remote correspondent again this week. We then are informed that Johnny Gargano has been giving some weird messages regarding “The Way” we are sent into a video package.

Video Package – Therapist Office

All four members of The Way are sitting side by side on a couch across from a therapist/doctor as she begins to speak. “I appreciate you all being here, but normally I see my patient one on one…” the doctor begins. Johnny then states that they are worried about Dexter Lumis who as Gargano puts it, “is a problem affecting all of us.” When the doctor asks Theory about this “problem”, Austin Theory states he doesn’t have a Dexter Lumis problem, he was on vacation. LeRae says being locked in a closet is not a vacation. The doctor asked if Theory was afraid to tell his friends (Gargano corrects the doctor, “FAMILY”). Austin states it was just two dudes hanging out. Hartwell is sitting next to LeRae doodling something and mumbling retorts defending Lumis. Gargano asks what she’s drawing on the steno pad, Hartwell responds, “nothing… it’s private”.

“Let me see it!” Gargano asks… Hartwell states it’s private. Gargano grabs the notepad and it states, “Mrs. Indi Wrestling Lumis” with hearts all around it. Gargano says, “I gave you that name, that was a GIFT, that was a CHRISTMAS PRESENT… You just ruined Christmas!!” Gargano then turns back to the doctor asking how Lumis isn’t in jail yet for what he did! The doc says Gargano’s hostility about Lumis is exposing some deep-rooted issues of his own. Gargano says this is not about him, as he adds he is “not here to be therap-ied on”, Theory is. Gargano is told to calm down but he stands up and continues ranting. The woman tells him to get out. Gargano goes on about how this is his office now. She tells him to get out again and then slams the door in his face. He says she’s very unprofessional but he will be out in the hallway if they need him. The segment is to be continued as we go back to commercial.

Production Room – Cameron Grimes

As we return from commercial break, Cameron Grimes walks into the “Head Up’s” of NXT and slams down a huge stack of cash on the production desk. Grimes states he wants to change the name of the Capitol Wrestling Center. At this point, the NXT General Manager William Regal approaches Grimes but Grimes is too concerned with counting his money. Regal tells Grimes to stand up. Regal says Grimes hit a crew member last week and now Regal has a potential lawsuit on his hands.

An unconcerned Grimes simply offers to “buy the guy off” but Regal states that he will handle it. Regal notes that it’s Grimes he has to worry about. Grimes counts more money and says everybody has a price. Regal responds that he doesn’t know what that means. Before exiting, Regal announces Grimes vs. Bronson Reed for tonight and walks off. Grimes isn’t happy and says it would be easier if he gave Regal some money. Grimes yells about WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase Sr. once again to end the segment.

Quick Announcement

Vic confirms Adam Cole vs. NXT Champion Finn Balor for next week. Beth confirms Balor vs. Roderick Strong in tonight’s non-title main event.

On the outside of the ring, Gonzalez is keeping Jax’s attention so she doesn’t enter the ring! Baszler then exits the ring and heads to the ringside area to regroup. Therapist Office – The Way

As we return to Austin Theory’s therapist appointment (kinda rude to make it for during NXT, his ONE night to be on tv, but ok…) Anyway, we see Dr. Nicoli talking to Austin Theory as she asks him if he knows why Dexter Lumis has had his eye him in particular. Theory simply responds, “I just think he gets lonely sometimes and he could really use a friend, you know?” In response, Indi Hartwell still making her sly comments states, “I’ll be his friend, with benefits.”

At this point, an upset Candice LeRae replies to Hartwell, “He doesn’t want friends. He wants victims.” The attention then goes back to Theory who states, “He can be a little weird sometimes.” Hartwell not skipping a beat states, “I like it when he gets weird.” Candice LeRae looks at her phone and notices that Johnny Gargano is continuously texting his wife from the hallway. At this point, Dr. Nicolli walks over and opens the office door and Gargano falls into the room. Ever the quick one with answers, Gargano states, “I ordered Uber Eats. You guys wants some?” Nicoli looks at Candice and says “YOU. OUT.” Candice and Johnny exit.

Finally, Dr. Nicolli tells Austin Theory that they are in a “safe space” where they can talk openly and honestly. She then follows up with asking Theory to tell her what “really” happened….

Backstage – LA Knight

Once again we head backstage, where we see LA Knight walking down the hall as he comments that he’s “going to do things his way on his time.” Behind Knight, Imperium can be seen talking to Killian Dain as Knight continues down the hall. At this point, we head to commercial break.

In-Ring LA Knight

As we return from the commercial break, we once again head to the ring and out comes LA Knight for his Wednesday night debut. Knight takes the mic and says he’s waited entirely too long to step into this ring, stare straight down the barrel and say let me talk to you. But we don’t understand. Don’t think Knight is about to come talk about childhood dreams. Standing in this ring isn’t a dream, it’s business, his business, and that involves whipping another man’s ass any time they step into the ropes.

Knight mentions how he changed the game at Takeover. People say he is the Tom Brady of wrestling but no, Tom Brady wishes he was half as good as LA Knight. Knight says he didn’t come in as a first round draft pick but when it’s all said and done, he will be the guy setting trends and records. Knight says he looks around and sees your Johnny Gargano’s, Kyle O’Reilly’s, Adam Coles and Finn Balor’s. Every single one of them has their fancy kicks and dives. Knight invites them to bring that to his front door because he’s not going to beat them with flash and pizazz, he didn’t come here to do anything fancy, he just came to get the job done.

Knight goes on and says he’s the last of a dying breed. He agrees with people who are saying he might be the greatest NXT Superstar of all time, already. Don’t call him The GOAT when it’s time for coronation, call him one thing that sets him above the rest – LA Knight. This is his game and that’s not an insult, it’s just a fact of life. Knight drops the mic to wrap his promo.

Bronson Reed vs. Cameron Grimes

Bronson Reed’s entrance theme sounds as Reed makes his way to the stage in preparation for his match with Grimes, as Knight is still standing in the ring. The two stare each other down as Reed stands at ringside, then entering the ring. Knight makes his exit as Reed steps in. Knight looks on from the ramp as Reed stomps and poses inside the ring. Out next is Reed’s opponent, the newly rich Cameron Grimes makes his way to the stage carrying a handful of money. Grimes then makes his way down the ramp as he begins tossing it around on the ramp and as he enters the ring. The referee signals for the bell.

The bell chimes and the next match-up of the evening is officially underway! Before Reed can strike, Grimes suggests a “deal”. Grimes then starts counting off hundred dollar bills but Reed drops him with a big right hand. Grimes picks up some of the money but attacks. Reed blocks and they go at it. Reed catches Grimes in mid-air and tosses him over the ropes to the floor. Grimes fights back in from the apron. Reed blocks a sunset flip and sits down on Grimes for a cover. Grimes kicks out at the two as we head to commercial break.

As we return from the commercial break, we see that Reed has control as he rolls Grimes into the ring from the floor at ringside. With the action continuing inside the ring, Grimes hits an Enziguri on Reed. Reed then looks to counter with a Clothesline that Grimes ducks. Grimes then hits a Spanish Fly in the middle of the ring for a 2 count. Grimes mounts Reed and rocks him with punches now. Reed tosses Grimes off but Grimes comes back with a big knee to the gut. Grimes grounds Reed with a submission now. Grimes breaks and drives a knee to the back of the head. Grimes stomps on Reed’s fingers. Grimes with kicks to the chest while Reed is on his knees. Grimes keeps kicking but Reed is getting to his feet, and he’s angry. Reed blocks a shot and drops Grimes, and again.

At this point, Reed levels Grimes with a jumping splash in the middle of the ring. Reed with a running splash in the corner now. Grimes blocks a move but Reed comes back with a big clothesline to turn him inside out. Grimes ends up on the apron and is shocked at Reed’s efforts. Grimes looks to walk out on the match but Reed runs and leaps out, taking Grimes down on the ground for a big pop. Reed brings Grimes back into the ring but here comes LA Knight, tossing Grimes’ hat into the ring. The referee grabs the hat and tosses it back out, allowing Knight to jump up and deck Reed while he’s on the top preparing for the big splash. Grimes takes advantage of the cheap shot and gets the pin on Reed.

Winner: Cameron Grimes

After the Match

Grimes celebrates as his music hits. Knight looks on from the stage and Reed seethes in the ring.

Backstage – WWE’s Adam Pearce and NXT General Manager William Regal

As we head backstage, we see that Adam Pearce and NXT General Manager William Regal are arguing back and forth (presumably about the WWE Women’s Tag-Team Titles).

Backstage Interview – Kayden Carter

As we head top a different area backstage, McKenzie Mitchell is interviewing Kayden Carter as she asks about Kacy Catanzaro’s injury. Kayden says it pisses her off to see her best friend hurt and out of action. Carter can’t say when Kacy will be back in action but she doesn’t give a damn about Xia Li. Carter says Xia took out her friend and now she has to do the same to her. She goes on and says Xia has pushed her buttons for too long, and now she just sees red. No fear, no hesitation. Carter says Xia can come and get it next week.

Therapist Office – Austin Theory

Once again, we head into the therapist’s office and Austin Theory is in there by himself. She asks what really happened during the three days Dexter Lumis had him. Theory says he was in a room with the windows boarded up. He watched cartoons and ate cereal all day, and has to say Dexter Lumis is really a nice guy. The doc asks why Lumis brought Theory back and he honestly doesn’t know why. The doc says she actually spoke to Lumis earlier and couldn’t get him to stop talking. This surprises Theory as Lumis doesn’t talk.

Lumis brought Theory back because Theory is the most obnoxious person he’s been around, his eating habits are disgusting, as are his habit of cutting up shirts to show off his mediocre abs, among other things. Theory starts crying and runs out to Johnny Gargano in the hall way. Gargano comes in consoling Theory, telling the doc she’s a monster. He comes back in by himself and thanks the doctor for pulling this off. He pays the doctor for playing the part and helping turn Theory back against Lumis. Gargano is off to take Theory to Chuck E. Cheese now. The doc says they’re a bunch of idiots.

Ever-Rise vs. Breezango

We go back to the ring and Matt Martel and Chase Parker of Ever-Rise are in the ring. Tyler Breeze and Fandango of Breezango are set to come out next but Legado del Fantasma’s Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde attack them on the stage and beat them down to ringside as fans boo. Ever-Rise cheers them on.

Mendoza and Wilde rush the ring but Ever-Rise retreats to the bottom of the ramp. NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar runs down the ramp and drops Ever-Rise from behind. Fans continue booing as Escobar beats Martel and Parker around, slamming Parker’s head into the steel steps a few times. Escobar enters the ring and takes the mic. He says do not mistake last week’s No DQ loss to Karrion Kross as a weakness because if you do… he speaks in Spanish and points at the two teams laid out at ringside, saying this is what will await you. The music hits as Escobar, Wilde and Mendoza stand tall to boos.

Quick Announcement

Ever-Rise cheers them on. Next, Mendoza and Wilde rush the ring but Ever-Rise retreats to the bottom of the ramp as Ever-Rise say they “weren’t born yesterday”.

We then see the NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar, who quickly runs down the ramp and drops Ever-Rise from behind. We hear the fans continue booing as Escobar beats Martel and Parker around, slamming Parker’s head into the steel steps a few times.

Non-Title Match
Finn Bálor (NXT Champion) vs. Roderick Strong

As we return to the ring for the main event match up of the evening, out first comes Finn Bálor. Balor heads down the ramp and enters the ring where he heads to each corner to pose with his title belt around his waist. Out next is Roderick Strong. Strong makes his way down the ramp and enters the ring with Balor. The referee holds Bálor back as Strong pounds on the mat and takes off his ring jacket. Strong stands up and finally breaks the hold with a takeover and a back breaker, sending us to a commercial break!

As we return from commercial break, Bálor is still in control. Balor continues to stomp Strong as he holds onto the ropes until the ref forces him to break. Bálor grounds Strong and continues to work over the left arm. Our referee asks Strong if he wants to give up and even though he’s screaming in pain he shakes his head no. Strong rolls out of the ring selling and Bálor drags him back in and grounds him again. The NeXTras pound on the barricade to encourage Strong to get to his feet, and he responds with a power slam to Bálor. We’re now in overrun territory as the clock just hit 10 p.m. ET. Back breaker for Strong for a near fall. We head to commercial break.

Bálor is sent to the canvas by Strong. The champ struggles to his feet and Strong hits the criss cross strikes before a powerbomb for the cover and a kick out at 2.999! Back to their feet, Bálor connects with a Slingblade and charges but Strong goes for the Stronghold. We see Bálor in pain and tries to crawl to the ropes. Strong drags him to the middle of the ring and rolls him up for a near fall.

Finally we see a bit more back and forth, then Bálor takes Strong down, connects with a Missile Dropkick. Balor then heads to the top for Coup de Grâce! 1916! He then gets the pin on Strong for the three count pin and win!

Winner: Finn Balor
