WWE NXT RESULTS (1/17/2023)
This week’s show kicks off with the “WWE Then. Now. Forever. Together” opening signature narrated by John Cena. From there, we shoot to an opening video package highlighting the top moments from last week’s NXT New Year’s Evil 2023 special themed-event.
Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams vs. Apollo Crews & Axiom
We shoot inside the Capitol Wrestling Center inside the WWE Performance Center and we hear the familiar sounds of Carmelo Hayes’ theme song. Out he comes accompanied by Trick Williams for our scheduled tag-team opener.
The two settle inside the squared circle and the music dies down. Now the theme for Axiom plays and out comes the masked fan-favorite. He stops half-way to the ring and is joined by Apollo Crews, who comes out to his entrance tune.
All four men are inside the ring and ready to rock. The bell sounds and we’re off-and-running with our first match of the evening here on this week’s NXT on USA.
Trick Williams and Axiom kick things off for their respective teams. We see Trick use his size and strength advantage to dominate his smaller foe. He stops and shimmy’s his shoulders in arrogant fashion. He decks Axiom with a big right hand that Vic Joseph and Booker T speculate on commentary nearly kayoed him.
Axiom starts to use his quickness and speed advantage to get some offensive footing. Hayes tags in but Axiom continues to control the action. He tags in Apollo Crews, who picks up where his masked tag-team partner left off, taking it to Hayes.
We see some big double-team high spots from the ring to the floor as the action continues. After this, we head to a mid-match commercial break. When we return from the break, we see the action still in progress. Apollo and Axiom are controlling things in the ring, as the two hit stereo German suplexes on Trick and Carmelo.
The smoke settles and we see Trick take over on Axiom as the legal two men in the ring. Trick tags in Hayes. who takes over where he left off as the fans try and clap and rally Axiom back into the contest.
Apollo Crews tags in and the offensive momentum begins shifting into the favor of the babyface duo. He hits a nice standing moonsault on Trick for a pin attempt, which Carmelo breaks up. We see the action break out on the floor between Axiom and Trick. Meanwhile, Apollo rolls Hayes, now the legal man, up in the ring for a pin fall victory.
Winners: Apollo Crews & Axiom
Tony D’Angelo Makes Stacks An Under-boss
We shoot to an outside segment where Tony D’Angelo and Stacks are shown talking. It sounds somber but ultimately, we learn that “Da Don” has given Stacks a promotion from soldier to “under-boss.”
Toxic Attraction Up Next …
After a video package is shown highlighting the conclusion of last week’s NXT New Year’s Evil main event, which saw both Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jane have their feet touch the floor at the same time for the final elimination in the match designed to determine the next challenger to NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez, we see the Toxic Attraction duo walking to the ring.
On that note, we head to another commercial break.
McKenzie Mitchell Interviews Tiffany Stratton
We return from the break to see McKenzie Mitchell backstage with Tiffany Stratton. Footage is shown from earlier today of Stratton going to her own locker room only for Indi Hartwell to pop out and tear her logo off the door and make it the NXT women’s locker room. Stratton says when all is said-and-done she’s gonna be the only one in the women’s division that matters.
Gigi Dolin, Jacy Jane Talk Being Co-Winners Of Battle Royal
From there, we return inside the CWC where Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jane make their way to the ring holding a rose. A graphic is shown advertising their upcoming triple-threat match against Roxxane Perez for the women’s title at NXT Vengeance Day.
We then see the two settle in the ring and immediately gloat. “We told you so!” they say to start off their promo segment. They gloat about being co-winners of the number one contender’s battle royal just like they said they would be last week at New Year’s Evil.
They claim the Toxic Attraction Revenge Tour is in full steam heading into North Carolina. They vow that Roxanne Perez will regret the day she became NXT Women’s Champion. Before they can continue, the theme for Lyra Valkyria hits and out she comes. She says if it wasn’t for Cora Jade, she’d be heading to Vengeance Day for the title shot.
She says it’s okay the way things turned out and feels confident she’ll get her opportunity eventually. Toxic Attraction ask where she came from and tout being champions longer than Valkyrie has “even had her wings.” They tell her nice try getting a rub from Toxic Attraction but tell her to get to the back of the line.
Valkyria says all she sees is two women who can’t beat Perez by themselves, so they have to do it together. This leads to a brawl between the three. Roxanne Perez ends up running down to make the save, clearing the ring of the heel duo.
Ivy Nile Gives The Creed Brothers Some Tough Love
We shoot backstage and see The Diamond Mine. Ivy Nile tells Julius and Brutus Creed to “grow a set and get back to being The Creed Brothers” when addressing their ongoing issues with Indus Sher and the returning Jinder Mahal.
Alba Fyre vs. Sol Ruca
From there, we see Alba Frye make her way out. She heads to the ring for our next scheduled bout of the evening. As she finishes up her ring entrance, we head to a pre-match commercial break.
We return to a shot of Stevie Turner and she gives her thoughts on last week’s women’s battle royal. From there, we return live inside the CWC where we see Fyre in the ring ready for singles action.
On that note, we see Sol Ruca make her way out and head to the ring for this one-on-one women’s showdown as Vic Joseph reads a plug for WWE Money In The Bank 2023 at the O2 Arena in London, England.
The bell sounds and we’re off-and-running with this one. We see some basic back-and-forth action early on. As the match gets going, we see Isla Dawn make her way out and the distraction leads to Ruca pulling off the victory, pinning Fyre.
Winner: Sol Ruca
Dijak Sends Message To Wes Lee
We head to a commercial break after the women’s bout. When we return, we see Dijak talking to the camera. He says he’s got Tony D’Angelo in the rear view mirror and says he’s ready to take the NXT North American Title from Wes Lee. He says he’d offer him a chance out but he’d be too stupid to take it.
Vic Joseph Interviews Grayson Waller
Now we shoot to a special sit-down interview that NXT commentator Vic Joseph conducted with Grayson Waller. He talks about coming up short in his title opportunity against Bron Breakker last week and blames it on the ring ropes breaking twice.
They talk about the knee he landed on the champ heard ’round the world and focus on the upcoming steel cage title rematch at NXT Vengeance Day. Waller vows to capture the title from Breakker at the special next month in North Carolina.
Gallus Is Up Next …
We see Gallus (Wolfgang and Mark Coffey) walking backstage making their way towards the entrance to the ring. On that note, we head to another commercial break.
Alba Fyre Loses Her Cool
As we return from the break we see officials restraining Alba Fyre. She is calmed down by the NXT Women’s Tag-Team Champions. She ends up saying that maybe she should set her sights on them two and their titles.
“Alba Fyre the NXT Women’s Tag-Team Champions, sounds good to me!” They take offense to this, saying they just helped her and now she’s coming at them like this.
Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen vs. Gallus
Now we head back inside the CWC where Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen make their way down to the ring for our next scheduled match of the evening here on NXT on USA.
As they settle into the squared circle, their theme music dies down. Now the familiar sounds of former NXT UK Tag-Team Champions Gallus plays and out comes Wolfgang and Mark Coffey. Vic Joseph and Booker T talk about them returning now that their suspension is up on last week’s show.
Both teams are in the ring and now the bell sounds to officially get this one off-and-running and all four men immediately collide and start duking it out. We see some good back-and-forth action with Wolfgang and Coffey dominating early on.
We see things build to a big spot on the floor where Jensen and Briggs shift the momentum back into their favor after a big suplex on the concrete. After that, we head to a mid-match commercial break.
As we settle back in from the break, we see that Gallus has taken back over control of the offense. Jensen is laid out on the floor down and out, leaving Briggs by himself, although Briggs fares well by himself for a while. We see Tatum Paxley scream for help from the back and out comes some officials to check on him.
The action continues in the ring as Jensen is helped up by the officials. Eventually the two-on-one numbers game disadvantage plays a factor, as Wolfgang and Coffey end up taking over and scoring the pin fall victory.
Winners: Gallus
Backstage With Chase U
We shoot backstage and see Chase U members pumping up Thea Hail ahead of her match when in comes Andre Chase to show some footage.
Duke Hudson ends up being caught in the footage with ulterior motives and comments. Chase confronts him about this briefly before we head to another commercial break.
Valentina Feroz vs. Thea Hail
As we return from the break we see Brooks Jensen being checked on by medics backstage after his injury situation during the previous tag-team match. After that, we head back inside the CWC where Valentina Feroz makes her way down to the ring.
Already in the ring is Chase U’s Thea Hail. The bell sounds and we’re off-and-running with this women’s singles contest. Feroz takes it to Hail early on, but Hail starts to make it competitive as she begins fighting back.
While the two trade offensive leads, we see Elektra Lopez make her way out to observe the action from ringside. Hail lands a big kick and then moonsaults onto her for a near fall attempt, which Feroz kicks out of.
Lopez tries passing brass knuckles to Feroz but she doesn’t want them so she gives them to the referee. While distracted by this, she turns around into a finisher from Hail that earns the Chase U member her first victory in NXT.
Winner: Thea Hail
Apollo Crews Needs A Haircut
Now we head to the parking lot where we see Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes exiting the building after their loss earlier tonight. They are approached by Apollo Crews, who mocks them for their loss and asks if they know of any good barber’s in town. They are confused as he leaves, pointing out that he’s bald.
NXT Pays Respects To The Late Jay Briscoe
From there, we shoot to the commentators desk where Booker T and Vic Joseph are shown and looking upset. They reveal the sad news that Jay Briscoe has passed away. We head to another commercial break.
The New Day, Pretty Deadly & Gallus Talk NXT Tag-Team Titles
Now we return from the break to a backstage segment where Elektra Lopez and Valentina Feroz discuss what just transpired in the previous women’s singles contest on tonight’s show.
From there, we shoot back inside the CWC where The New Day make their way out. Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston make their way to the ring in street clothes and settle inside, posing with their NXT Tag-Team Championships.
They boast looking good and say it’s because it’s a very special occasion. They claim they are done with Pretty Deadly. Just as they say this, out comes Pretty Deadly. They claim they are still the number one contenders to the titles.
When they make this statement, the theme music for Gallus hits and out comes Wolfgang and Mark Coffey. They dispute Pretty Deadly’s claim about the number one contender status. Gallus claims no one has rights to the NXT tag straps now that they are back on the scene.
Pretty Deadly end up attacking and this leads to a three-team brawl in and outside of the ring. We see The New Day and Gallus mainly left alone to duke it out as the fans chant “Let them fight!” and a ton of WWE and NXT officials flee to the scene to try and break things up.
McKenzie Mitchell Talks To Roxanne Perez & Lyra Valkyria
Now we shoot backstage where McKenzie Mitchell is standing by with NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez and Lyra Valkyria. She asks them how they feel they will fare as partners in tonight’s main event against Toxic Attraction.
Valkyria says she normally flies alone but she’s going to make an exception tonight for Perez, because she was there for her. As they continue to talk, in comes Javier Bernal. He has a guitar and mentions his Christmas album.
He asks if the champ or the “new girl” wants to hear a song. He gets a cold shoulder from both ladies and continues walking as the quick backstage segment wraps up. After this, we head to another commercial break.
Vic Joseph Interviews Bron Breakker
In his second of two sit-down interviews, NXT commentator is shown talking with NXT World Champion Bron Breakker earlier today. He talks about his title defense last week against Grayson Waller. He admits being rocked by the big knee from Waller.
He addresses the ring ropes breaking and then looks ahead to their rematch inside a steel cage at NXT Vengeance Day. Breakker says Waller is like the Chael Sonnen of WWE — he talks great, and talks a bunch of trash before losing every big fight he is in.
Tyler Bate vs. Javier Bernal
We head back inside the CWC where Javier Bernal is shown in the ring with a guitar. He talks about his Christmas album again and teases playing a song live. Before he can, however, the theme for his opponent cuts him off.
With that said, Tyler Bate makes his way out and heads to the ring for his return bout in NXT. The fans chant “Welcome back!” as he settles inside the squared circle and his entrance tune dies down.
The bell sounds and we’re off-and-running with our co-main event here on this week’s NXT on USA show. We see Bate dominating the action from the word “go” until a thumb in the eye from Bernal shifts the momentum.
We see some more back-and-forth action and then Bate fires up for a big offensive comeback. He shows off his unique offensive arsenal as Vic Joseph sings his praises on commentary. Finally, Bate hits his finisher and gets the pin fall victory.
Winner: Tyler Bate
Roxanne Perez & Lyra Valkyria vs. Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jane
We return from the break to see Thea Hail celebrating her win with Chase U. We then see Fallon Henley approach Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs. She reveals a tag match that she will be having with Kiana James as her partner.
We run down the lineup for next week’s NXT as we head back inside the CWC from the final commercial break of the evening.
The team of NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez and her partner Lyra Valkyria make their way to the ring. They settle inside and then the Toxic Attraction duo of Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jane make their way out.
Now the bell sounds and we’re officially off-and-running with our main event here on this week’s NXT on USA. We see the co-winners of the no. one contender battle royal from last week’s show faring well early on.
When Lyra tags in, she starts using her educated feet to land big shots. She heads to the top rope with intentions of finishing this one off, only for Cora Jade to interfere. “The Resident Mean Girl of NXT” attacks Lyra and this leads to Toxic Attraction taking over.
A kick from Dolin behind the referee’s back leads to the Toxic Attraction duo nearly finishing this one off. Dolin accidentally takes out Jane and while upset and reacting to this, she turns into a waiting Perez who finishes her off for the victory.
Perez hoists her title up in her victory celebration while we see Jane and Dolin bicker in the ring over the accident that led to their loss. That’s how this week’s show goes off the air. Thanks for joining us!
Winners: Roxanne Perez & Lyra Valkyria
