WWE NXT on SyFy Quick Recap (7/27/2021)

For those of you who want just the quick results and don’t want the details of matches, this is a quick recap of Tuesday’s show

Matches Tonight: Five

Tag Team Match: Ciampa & Thatcher vs Pete Dunne & Oney Lorcan. Dunne & Lorcan won after some help from the returning Ridge Holland. Great match for a heavily technical match! 8:02-8:19pm EST.

NXT Breakout Tournament: Carmelo Hayes (fka Christian Casanova). Great match. Carmelo Hayes will advance to face Duke Hudson next week. 8:41-8:51pm EST.

Women’s Tag Team Match: Franky Monet & Jessie Kamea vs Kayden Carter & Kacy Catanzaro. Franky Monet prove dominant in the short, entertaining match, until Robert Stone accidentally caused interference and cost Monet the match. 9:14-9:19pm EST.

Tag Team Match: Hit Row vs Imperium. Hit Row was represented by Ashante “Thee” Adonis & Top Dolla; Imperium as by Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner. Lengthy match that saw Hit Row denied the win thanks to an interfering Legado Del Fantasma. 9:25-9:41pm EST.

Singles Main Event Match: Bronson Reed vs Adam Cole. Slow start but the final three minutes were great. Cole picked up the clean, shocking win over Reed. 9:54-10:06pm EST.

Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:

NXT on SyFy: Due to the Olympic “games” apparently being more important than our sports “entertainment”, pfft, NXT aired on SyFy tonight. NXT will also air on SyFy next week. But fear not, and rejoice, Rajahmaniacs, for it is written that in two weeks NXT will return to the USA (network). We’re bringing our boys (and women) back home.

Addressing the NXT Universe: An upset Samoan Joe, enraged after recent events with the NXT Champion Karrion Kross, called out GM Regal. Joe knew Regal wanted to fire Kross for assaulting Regal last week, so Joe offered a three-step problem solution. First, Joe resigned from NXT Management. Second, Joe had Regal sign him as an NXT Superstar. Thirdly, Joe had Regal make it official–Kross vs Joe for the NXT Championship at TakeOver next month.

Addressing the NXT Women’s Division: Raquel Gonzalez came out with Dakota Kai to ask who was next. After hyping her friend up, Kai attacked Gonzalez, announcing her intentions to face the champ at TakeOver 36.

Golfing: Several segments aired tonight as “the Million Dollar Champion” LA Knight went golfing with his faithful Butler, Cameron Grimes, in tow. Three segments, with a tease of a possible clash with the Grizzled Young Veterans.

Notable Returns, if any: Ridge Holland returned, interfering in the Thatcher/Ciampa tag match and costing them the win.

New Signings: Gigi Dolan (fka Priscilla Kelly) was seen in a backstage segment with Mandy Rose and Cora Jade (fka Elayna Black–I believe it was Cora Jade, it was blink-and-miss-it).

Updated TakeOver 36 Card: WALTER will defend his NXT UK Heavyweight Championship in a rematch, albeit postponed, against Ilja Dragunov. Karrion Kross puts his NXT Championship on the line against a returning Samoa Joe. Dakota Kai challenges Raquel Gonzalez for her NXT Women’s Championship. Also, Johnny Gargano faces Dexter Lumis for the hand of Indi Hartwell–this is expected to be added to TakeOver 36, but could be added to a weekly episode. We’ll update y’all when we know more.

Next Week on NXT: Legado Del Fantasma vs Hit Row.
