WWE NXT On USA Network Results – (December 9, 2020)
Show Opening
To start the December 9th edition of the black and gold brand’s WWE NXT on the USA Network, we head into a recap of the WarGames pay-per-view event and the included matches.
As we return to the ring, we see The Prince, Finn Balor, make his way out to the stage where he cuts a promo as he looks directly into the camera. Balor informs the WWE Universe that he’s back. He then calls out anyone that wants to fight him. We wait to see who will accept the invitation and finally…
Pete Dunne Accepts Finn Balor’s Offer
The entrance theme for Pete Dunne hits the speakers in the Capitol Wrestling Center as we see Dunne make his way out to respond to Finn Balor. Dunne starts off by declaring that he and Balor are cut from the same cloth. Next, Dunne continues on to state how he wants to take on Balor. Before Dunne could elaborate, we hear the entrance theme for O’Reilly.
O’Reilly Interrupts Too
We see O’Reilly make his way to the stage, where he looks to Balor and Dunne, and O’Reilly inserts himself into the ongoing conversation. O’Reilly states that, while he and Dunne went to war, Undisputed Era came out on top. He then continues on adding that he took Balor to the limit…
Damian Priest Interrupts Next
Before O’Reilly could complete his thought, Damian Priest makes his way out to join the gaggle of superstars discussing the current on goings in NXT. Priest looks as though he’s going to share his thoughts, but before Priest can say anything, Dunne cuts him off. O’Reilly, Priest, and Dunne have an argument.
Balor starts to walk away and says that it is Regal’s decision to say who he will defend his title against. As Balor starts to walk to the back…
Karrion Kross Music Hits
The entrance theme for Karrion Kross who has been on medical leave after dislocating his shoulder during his match with Keith Lee that won him the NXT Championship (that he later had to forfeit the very next evening due to his injury.
Instead of Karrion Kross making his way to the stage… his partner-in-crime, Scarlett Bourdeux comes out instead. Balor looks to Scarlett and informs her that he has a quick and to the point message for Kross…. “When he’s ready, Finn’s ready.”
Before Scarlett can go anywhere or respond, Damien Priest also has something to say the Kross’s sidekick. Priest asks where Kross is. He then continues on and says that he is ready to fight when Kross comes back. In response to that comment, Scarlett laughs and walks to the back and we go to our first commercial break of the evening.
Backstage Interview – Pete Dunne

Leading up to his match inside the ring this evening, Tommaso Ciampa delivers a promo, starting off by stating he didn’t think Sunday would be an easy win. Nobody is safe. It is time I let the past die in the past and move forward. I don’t know any other way. Cameron Grimes, you sure are the squeakiest wheel. You are loud, brash, and ignorant. You are confident. To be that loud, you have to be confident. Maybe, you are just insecure. Funny thing about insecurity is that it often disguises itself as confidence. On that note, we head to commercial break.
Imperium vs. Ever-Rise vs. Grizzled Young Veterans
We head back to the ring as we return from commercial break and the next match up is ready as Imperium members stand in one corner, Ever-Rise members stand in one corner, and the Grizzled Young Veterans stand in their corner. We head backstage where McKenzie Mitchell is standing with Toni Storm. Mitchell starts off by asking Storm why she turned on Ember Moon before WarGames. Storm responds by stating that Moon was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time (and she guesses she made the right decision because her team won at WarGames).
Storm continues on and adds she made it incredibly clear when she made her return to NXT… that she was focused on the title, but all she heard about was Moon, who stole her thunder (The “Moon” stole the “Storm’s” “Thunder”… ha.). Storm states that it’s OK now, because we’re looking at the next NXT Women’s Champion…
Io Shirai Interrupts Toni Storm’s Backstage Interview
We see Io Shirai step into the frame as she interrupts Storm’s backstage interview with McKenzie Mitchell. Shirai has her title belt with her as she mentions the title and says she doesn’t have a problem with Storm, she just doesn’t like her. Timothy Thatcher Gets Front Row Seat
As the match is still in the early stages, we are surprised with none other than Timothy Thatcher as he makes his way to ringside and he takes a seat at the bottom of the ramp. Now that’s commitment! Ciampa heads in with a Chin Lock on Grimes, successfully locking in it. Grimes struggles to break free as he pushes Ciampa, but Ciampa just pushes back. Next, the two stand in the center of the ring as they begin to exchange blows.
Grimes is able to get a hard Irish Whip and Ciampa with a Back Elbow. At this point, Grimes goes to the floor for a breather, however Ciampa follows. Grimes walks around the ringside area, unintentionally walking past Timothy Thatcher… Ciampa stops. Grimes looks at Ciampa and sees a window of opportunity to catch Ciampa off guard, so Grimes tries to attack Ciampa to no avail. Ciampa sends Grimes back into the ring and Grimes hits a k=Knee to the midsection of Ciampa for the counter. Grimes quickly heads in for a cover and gets a near fall.
Ciampa is able to get his shoulder up, continuing the match with a now frustrated Grimes. Grimes heads to the corner where Ciampa is and begins to kick Ciampa, then follows up with choking him. The referee forces a break. Grimes lands a Forearm and Hard Irish whip for a near fall. Grimes stands inches from Ciampa as they are face to face, Grimes then proceeds to chop Ciampa across the chest. Ciampa looks down at his chest, then delivers a Chop right back to Grimes who looks worse for wear.
The two continue their back and forth chop fest until finally, Grimes misses a chop and Ciampa begins to attack Grimes with chops and boots. As expected at this point in the match, Ciampa sets up for his Fairy Tale Ending finisher, but Grimes escapes and hits a Side Slam for a near fall.
