Earlier this week, WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson released a video on social media where he paid tribute to AEW star PAC, who tragically passed away last month.
In his comments, The Rock also complimented AEW as growing into a “phenomenal wrestling company” while referring to Tony Khan as his friend.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that The Rock’s comments towards AEW raised some eyebrows within WWE circles and that they were surprised at the words that he chose to use.
He noted that The Rock and Nick Khan remain close and that their relationship has not changed one way or the other and The Rock remains on TKO’s Board of Directors. While some people in WWE were caught by surprise at his comments, Meltzer speculated that due to this friendship, The Rock may have told Nick Khan what he was going to be saying.
Meltzer also stated that the Rock’s message that put AEW in a strong, positive light was likely not the message that WWE wants to put out but that in the end, no one is going to be upset at the Rock for doing the video and ultimately he has free will to do whatever he wants.
