On a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was revealed that the WWE is planning to introduce brand-new Tag Team Championships to the NXT women’s division. On the most recent episode of NXT, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler successfully defended thier titles against Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez, albeit in controversial fashion. WWE official Adam Pearce sent a RAW referee down to the ring to make the count on Dakota Kai, after the NXT Official who started the match took a ref bump. Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez earned the title shot due to their win in the first-ever Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Later in the broadcast, NXT General Manager William Regal had an argument backstage with WWE official Adam Pearce. William Regal then announced that next Wednesday’s NXT will feature an announcement that will change the landscape of NXT forever.
WWE created the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles in December 2018 with Sasha Banks and Bayley becoming the inaugural champions. There is no word yet on if NXT General Manager William Regal’s huge announcement will be about the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles, but that is reportedly the current plan. As soon as an update is available, it will be provided.
