It looks like a name-change is in store for what is currently recognized as the NXT Women’s Championship.
WWE is going to be renaming their NXT Women’s Championship to simply the NXT Championship, removing the gender reference.
Internally, WWE has sent out a directive to start referencing the title as such, though it’s unclear if the same change will be made for the Women’s Raw, Smackdown and Tag Team championships as well.
It’s also not known how or if WWE will distinguish the NXT belt from the men’s, which basically goes by the same name.
The change interestingly comes on the heels of Becky Lynch’s appearance on WWE Backstage this week where she discussed why she feels the company should stop referencing the females as competing in the “women’s division” by dropping the gender specific title.
