WWE and TNA launched a partnership earlier this year and since then we have seen the two promotions cross-promote and cross-feature talent. While things appear to be going smoothly on the surface, a new report from fightfulselect.com details of a storyline that was pitched but ended up not happening.
According to the story, reigning TNA champion Joe Hendry hasn’t appeared on WWE TV much as of late apart from an appearance at the Royal Rumble but not because of a lack of ideas as there was a pitch for him to show on WWE Raw. However, TNA’s Executive Producer and Head of Creative at the time Ariel Shnerer didn’t like the creative that was proposed and nixed the plan. It is believed that the program with Hendry would have seen him taking a loss, rumored to be against The Miz would have led to a feud between the two. While that storyline never materialized, WWE ended up sending Ethan Page over to TNA in a program that is rumored to be similar to what was pitched for Hendry in WWE.
Shnerer not approving the pitch to have Hendry lose to Miz is believed to have led to WWE “souring quite a bit” on him and there was a separate situation where WWE NXT talent requested that Shnerer not be present in the wrestlers’ locker room, not because they had something personal against him but because the talent felt that the locker room should be limited to performers. Shnerer ultimately departed TNA last month but whether these incidents contributed to his exit remain unclear.
