The rumors of Adam Copeland returning to WWE as Edge to wrestle John Cena during his retirement are just that: rumors.
After being written off of TV last night on Dynamite, a surge of online speculation began believing that perhaps Copeland is headed back to WWE to battle his old nemesis Cena as his retirement looms closer and that this was happening with AEW’s blessing, presumably with the company letting him out of his contract temporarily to go compete in the match.
PWInsider.com reports that none of these rumors are even true at all and that Copeland’s temporary exit from AEW storylines is due to a movie commitment in Disney’s Percy Jackson series where he plays a recurring role as Ares, The God of War. Copeland has made appearances in each of the last two seasons.
In a backstage segment on AEW Dynamite, Copeland told his partner and long-time friend and rival Christian Cage that he was stepping away from the ring due to how wrestling was affecting him and his family and that he wasn’t sure when or where he would return.
