John Cena’s in-ring career is winding down with only a handful of matches left before he officially hangs up his boots and it appears that his very final match could end up being a title match.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that there have been internal discussions within the company about Cena potentially winning the WWE Intercontinental Title at November’s Survivor Series and then going on to defend the title in December at Saturday Night’s Main Event which would be his final match. The plan over those two PLEs is for Cena to face Dominik Mysterio for the IC title before wrestling his final match against Gunther.
Winning the WWE Intercontinental title would also end up being a first Cena – among his many accolades with WWE, including being a 17-time World Champion, he has never held the IC title.
Cena has only four appearances left on his schedule before he retires and they are as follows:
- WWE Monday Night Raw: November 10 in Boston, Massachusetts
- WWE Monday Night Raw: November 17 in New York City, New York
- WWE Survivor Series: November 29 in San Diego, California
- WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event: December 13: in Washington, D.C.
Amid some rumors that he may reconsider retiring at the end of the year, Cena tweeted yesterday reiterating that the Saturday Night’s Main Event match on 12/13 will be his last one:
