WWE FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN RESULTS (03/19/2021)
Show Opening
We immediately head into the WWE ThunderDome II which is hosted at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, and we are welcomed to the March 19, 2021 edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown which is represented by Progressive! As we make our way around the main stage and ramp, finally looking into the crowd of monitors at the ThunderDome II, Corey Graves and Michael Cole welcome us to tonight’s edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown!
We are reminded that this weekend’s WWE Fastlane 2021 is the final stop on the road to WrestleMania 2021! We head backstage as we come upon the current WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, Sasha Banks who is arguing with Bianca Belair. Belair notes that Banks screwed her last week due to Reginald and yet he’s still in Banks’ head. Belair continues on and tells Banks that while she is “The Boss” and “The Standard”, she did NOT make a good decision by choosing to defend her title tonight leading into this weekend’s WWE Fastlane 2021 pay-per-view.
Belair says that Banks is thinking too much about Reginald again and their entanglement. Belair informs Banks that she will NOT be running out to save her tonight. Banks said that’s fine, because she didn’t ASK her to. On that note, her entrance theme begins to play for her to make her way out for tonight’s match.
Smackdown Women’s Championship Match: Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax (w/ Shayna Baszler)
We head into the ThunderDome II as the entrance theme for Sasha Banks plays over the speakers as Michael Cole hypes the Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks match at WrestleMania in a few weeks, then notes the match with Bianca Belair & Sasha Banks teaming up against Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler this weekend at Sunday’s WWE FastLane 2021! Corey Graves notes that Sasha Banks should keep her focus. Banks stands in the center of the ring and holds her SmackDown Women’s Champion high in the air.
Out next is “the powerhouse” Nia Jax who is accompanied by Shayna Baszler. Nia Jax has given Reginald the Sommelier the night off and he’s currently at a “spa day” paid for by Nia Jax (a picture is shown of him with cucumber slices on his eyes.) After official announcements and introductions, the referee signals for the bell. The bell rings and the first match of the evening is officially underway! We see both women head into the match, meeting in the center of the ring, Jax chases Banks who takes out Baszler off the apron. Banks is sending Jax into the turnbuckle.
Banks looks for the Banks Statement, but Jax is able to roll out of harm’s way to start off! Jax pulls Banks up and holds her high above Jax’s head, and holds Banks there for several moments before dropping her down with a Stalling Suplex! Jax quickly makes the covers. Banks kicks out at two! Jax says “it’s over now” as she pulls Banks up to her feet and scoop slams her. At this point, Bianca Belair marches her way down to the ring as Banks rolls out of the ring. Belair says “You got it, you got it, you can win this!” as we head to commercial break!
As we return from the commercial break we see that Banks is holding her own as she is defending herself against Jax. At this point, we see Jax grabbing Banks from the corner and hits a Side Slam in the center of the ring! Both of their tag-team partners, Belair and Baszler, watch on intently from ringside. Next we see Jax connect with her Stretch Muffler submission attempt, which causes Banks to go face-first into the turnbuckles for another pin attempt. Banks kicks out with a close 2 count. Jax continues to work on Banks while keeping her on the canvas.
Next we see Sasha Banks trying to fight out but once again, Jax applies the Stretch Muffler. Banks tries to get free but Jax drops down and misses as Banks moves. Banks with a reverse Meteora to the back for a 2 count. Jax sends Banks to the floor with one arm but she comes right back and ends up on the back of Jax. Jax tries to turn that into a Samoan Drop but Banks fights free with elbows. Banks with a big Tornado DDT into the Bank Statement. Baszler and Belair get into it at ringside. Baszler rolls into the ring and Baszler follows.
At this point we see that the referee is distracted with Belair at ringside, which allows Shayna Baszler to land a kick on Banks but she accidentally takes out her own partner, Nia Jax! We then see Belair send Baszler through the ropes to the floor and Banks finishes up the match with a Jackknife pin for the three count pin and win to retain her SmackDown Women’s Championship!
Winner: Sasha Banks
After the Match
Immediately following the match, the music hits as Banks takes her title and begins celebrating. She joins Belair on the ramp, raising the title in the air! We see Baszler trying to console and apologize to her partner, Nia Jax inside the ring!
Video Package
Next we head to the announcer’s table where the commentary team sends us into the Progressive-sponsored video showing the events leading into tonight’s match tonight between Jey Uso vs. Edge to find out who will be the “enforcer” for this weekend’s match between Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan at Fastlane 2021!
Backstage Interview – Edge
We head backstage where Kayla Braxton is standing with the Rated-R Superstar, Edge! Braxton asks how it feels to have his first match on SmackDown in a decade. Edge states that it’s definitely crazy, but adds it’s just like “coming home”. Edge then points out that some of his greatest moments happened on SmackDown including his World Heavyweight Title win over The Undertaker. The crowd pops! Edge then continues on to state that also the worst moment of his career took place here, when he had to hand the title over and retire.
Edge continues on to state that being back now is definitely surreal, but “it feels right”. Edge states that Daniel Bryan needs a fair shot, and Bryan will get that if Edge is the Special Enforcer in the match-up. Edge then states that he feels like Jey Uso can be one of the greatest talents we’ve seen, but not as long as he’s following in the shadow of Roman Reigns, where he will always find trouble. Edge finishes that tonight, he wants trouble. On that note, he ends the interview.
Entrance – Seth Rollins
At this point we return to the ring as the “Friday Night Messiah” Seth Rollins makes his way to the stage as his entrance theme sounds. Rollins makes his way down the ramp towards the ring. We head to commercial break.
Quick Announcement
from the break and we see how WWE Hall of Famers Edge and Hulk Hogan teamed up on SmackDown 19 years ago, in 2002, to win the WWE Tag Team Titles from Billy and Chuck. The announcers plug Hogan and Titus O’Neil being the WrestleMania 37 hosts.
Backstage – Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler
Next, we head backstage where we see Nia Jax still upset with her tag-team partner, Shayna Baszler, after causing Jax to lose her match earlier tonight. Baszler apologizes but Jax states she doesn’t want to hear that, she wants to know what Baszler is going to do about it. Baszler thinks momentarily, then adds that she is going to get a match with Bianca Belair and then give her the nasti-EST beating of her life.
In-Ring – Seth Rollins
Rollins starts by reminding everyone that he made his triumphant return after a very extended hiatus when the SmackDown roster surrounded the ring to greet him like a king. Rollins adds that he knows many from the locker room don’t like him, but they respect him. Rollins states that they were all idiots, but one person simply took it “too far” — Cesaro.
Rollins goes on about how Cesaro disrespected, humiliated and embarrassed him. Wondering why, Rollins realized that it’s all because Cesaro is jealous of Rollins’ success, how he’s loved, and the fact that he’s a WrestleMania main eventer, while Cesaro is an abject failure. Rollins then sends us into a video from last week where Cesaro wasn’t “at the level” of Seth Rollins. Rollins goes on taunting Cesaro and calling him the biggest waste of potential in WWE history.
Shinsuke Nakamura Joins Seth Rollins In-Ring
The music interrupt and out comes Shinsuke Nakamura. Rollins starts back-peddling as Nakamura makes his way towards the ring. Rollins says that Nakamura didn’t respect him, he simply walked away like a good man… to which Nakamura grabs the microphone and states, “Shut… Up…” as the crowd pops! Rollins goes to attack but Nakamura evades, then sends Rollins to the canvas with a Dropkick! Rollins retreats to the floor before Nakamura can follow up. Rollins then re-enters the ring as he runs in, Nakamura drops him once again. Nakamura goes for the Kinshasa and nails it for a big pop. Rollins backs up against the ropes to recover as Nakamura’s music hits. Nakamura stands tall on the ramp as Rollins looks on.
Quick Announcement
We return to the announcer’s table as the commentary team announcers that Eric Bischoff going to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame 2021!!
The Street Profits vs. Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio
At this point we return to the ring as Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins make their way to the stage as The Street Profits entrance theme sounds over the speakers in the ThunderDome II! Commentary notes that “it’s take-back season” for The Street Profits. On that note, we head to commercial break!
As we return from the commercial break, Michael Cole and Corey Graves note that they are currently joined by SmackDown Tag Team Champions Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler. Cole slips up on his notes, and gets a jab from Ziggler about “all those notes in front of you and still can’t get one right.” Out next for the next match-up of the evening are Rey Mysterio and his son, Dominik Mysterio. With everyone in the ring, the referee signals for the bell. The bell rings, and the match is officially underway! To start things off, Montez Ford and Dominik Mysterio kick off the match as the legal men in. Dominik starts off on offense, Ford looking impressed by the technical moves by Dominik, but then takes Dominik down! Rey notes that Dominik is in distress and tags in and nails a Dropkick as Ford runs the ropes. Rey follows with a cover. Ford kicks out at the two!
Back and forth action between Rey and Montez until finally Dawkins tags in. Ford takes Rey down before exiting the ring. They double team Rey and Dawkins follows with a cover for the two count! Dawkins continues with a Big Flying Corkscrew in the corner of the ring. At this point, Angelo Dawkins tags Montez Ford back in and Rey avoids the double team. Next we see Ford catch Rey looking to finish the match, but Rey gets ahead of him and hits a 619. The Street Profits evade, but Dominik follows up immediately, sending Dawkins to the floor at ringside. Ford looks to defend Dawkins as he lands a shot that levels Dominik followed by a Side Slam for the cover. Dominik kicks out at the two! Once again Dawkins tags back in, along with Ford heading up to the top turnbuckle. Dawkins hoists Dominik onto his shoulders and Ford looks for the finisher, but Rey quickly runs in and successfully knocks Ford off the top! Rey and Dominik finish the match up allowing Dominik to roll up Dawkins as Ziggler shouts on commentary, “the kid’s got it! the kid’s got it!” and we see a pin for the three count pin and win!
Winners: Rey and Dominik Mysterio
After the Match
Immediately following the match, we watch as Rey and Dominik celebrate the win as their music hits. Dolph Ziggler then states he would absolutely take on the Mysterio’s for a title shot match.
Otis and Chad Gable Enter
Suddenly, we hear the entrance theme for Otis and Chad Gable. Representing The Alpha Academy, out come Otis and Chad Gable. They confront The Mysterios and hope that Rey and Dominik don’t think they’ve earned a title shot before them. Gable goes on about what they’ve recently done to Rey and Dominik but The Mysterios have heard enough as they proceed to attack Gable and Otis, taking them down for a pop. Rey and Dominik stand tall as we go back to commercial.
Alpha Academy vs. Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio
As we return from the commercial break, the impromptu match between Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio vs. Chad Gable and Otis is officially underway. The legal men in to start off the match are Rey Mysterio and Chad Gable! It is noted that Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins representing The Street Profits are on commentary as well as the current reigning SmackDown Tag Team Champions Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler who were still sitting at the announcer’s table and decide to stay on for this match too!
Back in the ring, we see Gable heading up top carrying Rey Mysterio with him when suddenly Rey lands a Headbutt to force Gable’s hold to break and falls to the canvas inside the ring! Next we see Rey land a Flying Senton. Next Gable looks for the come up but Rey counters and again drops Gable to the canvas, this time with a 619. At this point, Rey’s son, Dominik, enters the ring and runs in to drops Otis off the apron. Rey once again heads up top, but Otis meets him there and lands a low blow while the referee is focused on getting Dominik back out of the ring! Next we get a Big Suplex by Gable onto Rey Mysterio. Once again, Otis comes in and drops a Headbutt on Rey Mysterio.
Otis continues to dominate Rey in the match as he lands a Double Ax Handle in the center of the ring. Otis follows up with a Bear Hug as Rey bites Otis to break the hold. Rey then levels Otis with a Clothesline and looks to follow up, but Otis lands a Splash on Mysterio for the counter. Rey lands a Basement Dropkick before tagging his son Dominik back into the match. Otis tags Gable at the same time. Dominik lands a successful Hurricanrana. They go back and forth, Dominik takes Gable down for a cover. Gable kicks out at the two! Dominik continues on as he returns to his feet, and lands a Tornado DDT out of the corner for a pin-fall attempt. But Otis quickly enters the ring, breaking the pin to continue the match, allowing Gable back to his feet.
At this point Rey comes running into the ring, sending Otis to the apron then out to the floor at ringside for interrupting the pin. Rey exits the ring and begins to follow Otis who turns and strikes followed by sending Rey into the barricade at ringside! Back in the ring, Dominik drops Gable as he looks for the 619, catching him for a Side Slam. Gable sends Dominik into the corner at this point as he tags Otis back into the match! Gable hits a big German Suplex with an assist by Otis. Next Otis climbs the turnbuckles and hits a huge Flying Splash onto Dominik in the center of the ring. He quickly follows up with a pin-fall attempt, getting the three count pin and win victory!
Winners: The Alpha Academy
After the Match
Right after the bell rings, we see Chad Gable and Otis representing the Alpha Academy as they stand tall in victory over Rey and Dominik Mysterio. We see Rey at ringside still recovering from his bump. On commentary, we hear Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler informing the announcers that the division is “hot” right now and they welcome any challengers, any time. The Street Profits state they will get their opportunity.
Quick Announcement
Corey Graves and Michael Cole note that WWE Fastlane 2021 will air on the WWE Network exclusively and if you haven’t already, download the Peacock App or check your local listings for your provider to join the channel.
Backstage – Sami Zayn’s Documentary Crew
We head backstage next where Sami Zayn is doing his usual ranting to his “WWE Conspiracy” documentary film crew. Zayn notes that King Corbin has a match tonight. Suddenly Kevin Owens enters the frame as he’s walking by and Zayn stops him quickly and asks if he’s reconsidered being involved with the documentary. Sami brags about being in touch with Logan Paul as he tries to talk Owens into it.
Kevin Owens states that he’s known Zayn for a long time now, and then asks Zayn if he’s ever considered the possibility that all these “conspiracies” might just be his own fault? Stunned at the accusation, Zayn states he will NOT take the blame for anything as it’s “them” and “they” always do this. Owens follows up by asking who “they” are, if he knew that maybe more could be explained. Zayn refuses to answer that question but invites Owens to stand in his corner during tonight’s match to “see for himself”. Zayn adds that If Owens doesn’t see anything remotely suspicious, he will drop all this conspiracy stuff.
Entrance – Daniel Bryan
As we return to the ring inside the ThunderDome II at St. Petersburg, Florida’s Tropicana Field, we hear the entrance theme for Daniel Bryan as a “Yes” chant follows him to the ring. As Bryan enters the ring, the chanting continues!
Quick Announcement
The commentary team of Corey Graves and Michael Cole both note that WrestleMania 37 tickets are now on sale, as we head to commercial break!
In-Ring – Daniel Bryan
As we return from commercial break, Daniel Bryan is in the center of the ring. Bryan takes the microphone from a WWE official at ringside and begins by stating what a night this is so far! He then continues on to stat that tonight’s match of Edge vs. Jey Uso is an important one as we all know what will happen at Fastlane if Jey wins tonight. On the other hand, Edge is the ultimate opportunist and will do whatever he needs to get what he wants, and what he wants is to challenge Reigns one-on-one at WrestleMania. Bryan continues on to state that “he gets it”, adding that he understands why. He then let’s us in on the secret, stating that Edge just doesn’t want to face Bryan!
Bryan continues on to stat that Edge does in fact believe that he can beat Roman Reigns… Bryan adds that the difference between them is Edge thinks he can beat Reigns, while Bryan knows he can beat Reigns. Bryan then states that he will PROVE his statement true during this Sunday’s WWE Fastlane 2021 where he will force Reigns to “tap out” just like he previously did to Reigns’s cousin, Jey Uso!
WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns Interrupts
Apparently not appreciating being talked about, the current reigning WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns makes his way to the stage as his entrance theme sounds over the speakers inside the ThunderDome II! Reigns is accompanied by his “special counsel” Paul Heyman as Reigns raises his title above his head as he stands on the ramp and the pyro goes off.
A cocky smile crosses the lips of Roman Reigns as his special counsel hands him a microphone. Reigns openly begins to laugh at the idea of Bryan tapping him out. Reigns informs Bryan that he doesn’t stand a chance and there is a better chance of shooting lightning out of his ass or sprouting wings and flying out of the ThunderDome like a little bird. Reigns makes a point to Bryan that not ONE person in his entire career, has been able to tap him out! Reigns informs Bryan that he would rather lose his arm than tap to any man. He then follows up by stating he would rather die in the ring than to tap out “to someone like Bryan.” This causes a “Boooo” from the crowd.
Bryan responds to Reigns saying “he’d rather die” are some pretty strong words to describe the possibility of being tapped out. Bryan warns that everyone thinks they’re invincible until they’re not, unbeatable until they lose, and untappable until they tap out. Bryan continues on to state that not only is he going to make Reigns tap, he’s ALSO planning to break him of his current beliefs, (his delusions, if you will). Bryan then adds that he doesn’t want Reigns to die, but he promises that he will beat Reigns for the title at Fastlane. On that note, Bryan’s music hits the speakers once again as a “Yes!” chant proceeds to break out in the crowd and Reigns and Heyman make their exit.
Video… Promo? – Sami Zayn vs. King Corbin
Next we head into a strange type of video “promo” highlighting the match of Sami Zayn vs. King Corbin that is still to come tonight. The promo promises the “least-anticipated match on SmackDown”, the match that no one asked for. Unfortunately there will be a winner, but thankfully there will also be a winner. With that strange anti-promo, we head to commercial break once again!
King Corbin vs. Sami Zayn
AS we return from the commercial break, King Corbin has already made his entrance during the commercial break and is already in the ring. Out next is Sami Zayn who is in the middle of wrapping up his entrance. It is noted that Kevin Owens is currently on commentary for this next match up.
With both competitors inside the ring, the referee signals for the bell, the bell rings and the match is officially underway! To start things off, we see Zayn throw the first strike, connecting to Corbin. Corbin follows up with a move that drops Zayn straight to the canvas! Next Zayn goes to the ropes and the referee forces Corbin to back off a bit. At this point, Sami uses his position to take control and uses the middle rope on Corbin, yelling at the referee. Zayn then follows up with multiple strikes. As Zayn looks for a Clothesline, Corbin evades by ducking underneath Zayn’s arm, then follows up with a Clothesline of his own that connects, taking Zayn down!
Corbin follows up with several ground and pound strikes! Zayn lands a cheap shot poke to the eyes that forces Corbin back to assess his eye injury momentarily, as Zayn uses the ropes for leverage. The referee catches Zayn doing so, and begins to have a discussion as Zayn argues he wasn’t doing anything wrong! At this point, Zayn pulls the cover off the top turnbuckle. Corbin follows up attacking Zayn from behind. The referee covers the turnbuckle back up as Zayn continues to argue. With Zayn’s attention elsewhere, Corbin takes advantage and hits End of Days in the middle of the ring for the cover. The referee counts one, two, three for the win going to to King Corbin!
Winner: King Corbin
After the Match
As the victor, we see King Corbin standing tall as his music hits the speakers. On commentary, Kevin Owens informs Cole he saw nothing out of the ordinary against Sami.
At ringside, Sami Zayn is still arguing with the referee, as he comes up to Owens, asking if he saw what happened?? Owens defends the officiating referee and says Sami is just mad things didn’t go his way. Zayn begins to shout. Owens tells him to let it go.
Zayn begins to walk away as Owens turns his attention to Cole and Graves when suddenly, Zayn attacks from behind with a big Helluva Kick to the head. Zayn shouts at Owens as the fans begin to “Booo”, Zayn walks off, still ranting. We go to replays. Zayn is talking to the documentary crew as they are still filming. Zayn says Owens doesn’t want to see the truth and that’s his problem.

We see Big E as well as Apollo Crews, both in separate locations now. Michael Cole is leading the interview from his spot at the announcer’s table.
Cole starts off by asking both superstars if they’ll ever be able to settle their differences. Big E answers first, stating that’s over. He doesn’t want to talk about reconciliation or Kumbaya, just vengeance. Big E continues on to state that Crews has just two days and he should take those days to enjoy the little things, as his new future is going to look dark. Big E continues on to state there’s no question that he will retain on Sunday while Crews will get everything he deserves.
Crews then takes his turn to respond, as he informs Big E that he should think twice before talking to Nigerian royalty with such disrespect. Crews says he will crack Big E’s face and he will see the Nigerian Warrior within Crews. He goes off on a tangent about being Nigerian and adds that all his ancestors will be watching over him as he stands over Big E’s mangled body as the new Intercontinental Champion. At that, Big E begins to take off his mic, stating there’s no waiting til Sunday. Big E walks off. Crews starts taking off his mics now.
The camera follow Big E as he finds a golf cart and rides it around Tropicana Field while yelling out for Crews. The camera man rides with Big E. The cameraman for Crews shows that Crews is backstage, as he tells Big E to “come find me”. Which is just what he does, and as Big E finally finds Crews, we see that Crews may have changed his mind. Big E attacks first, as he beats Crews backstage. Big E dominates Crews, throwing him into walls and beating him around. Finally we see the WWE Officials show up and separate them.

The current WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks comes out but stops on the stage, then turns around and heads right back to the back while laughing hysterically… hmmm.
Back to the ring, with both competitors inside the ring, the referee signals for the bell. The bell rings and match is officially underway! To start, we see Belair head in on Baszler, but Baszler takes control early as she throws Belair from the ring, Belair landing on the ground at ringside. Belair looks up and notices she is right at Jax’s feet. The referee begins the count-out as Baszler exits the ring, dragging Belair back inside.
As Baszler looks to Jax, she notices that Jax is walking off up the ramp and Baszler shouts to her, asking where she’s going. Belair takes advantage of the distraction and rolls Baszler up for a two count. The match continues on when suddenly we see both Natalya and Tamina Snuka hit the ring and attack Baszler and Belair. They first toss Baszler to the floor and then double team her, launching her over the announce table. Next we see Natalya return to the ring and attacks Belair but Belair fights her off.
At this point, Tamina returns to the ring and Superkicks Belair, as she and Natalya double-team Belair, causing Belair to stay down inside the ring. We are reminded that the winner of this match will be the Special Enforcer for Daniel Bryan vs. WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WWE Fastlane 2021 on Sunday as we head to the commercial break.
We return from the commercial break as Jey Uso makes his way out for tonight’s match up. Uso’s music continues to play as he makes his way down the ramp and enters the ring. The bell rings and the main event match up is officially underway! We start off with Edge taking Jey Uso to the mat looking for a quick pin attempt, to no avail. Once again, they lock up again and Edge takes control of the match with a Headlock.
Next we see Edge land a Shoulder to Uso. After that, Edge looks for a submission but luckily, Uso scrambles to get free. Edge keeps control and nails a Running Kick. Uso fights back and sends Edge to the floor clutching his ribs. Uso follows Edge out to ringside where the match continues. Next we see Uso send Edge crashing into the steel ring stairs at ringside. At that point, Uso returns to the ring and immediately runs the ropes for a Suicide Dive. Uso slams Edge into the announcer’s table as we head to the final commercial break of the evening!

Edge attempts to fight back but Uso continues to dominate the match up. Next we see Uso slams Edge ribs-first over the top rope. Uso drags Edge to the apron, rolling him back into the ring. Uso then returns to the ring as he trash talks Edge. Next Uso launches Edge into the corner of the ring.
Edge’s ribs hit the ring post as Edge falls to the canvas in pain, shouting. Finally, Edge catches Uso with a Kick and Uso retaliates with an Enzuguri! At this point we see Uso climb up to the top turnbuckle and as he goes for an Uso Splash, Edge rolls away to evade and Uso is forced to roll through. Edge back to his feet now, as well as Uso and we see both run and go for a move as they both collide mid-air and they both go down with Edge taking most of the impact. The referee begins the count. Both begin to get back up, staggering until Edge drops Uso with a kick. Edge continues to maintain control at this point as he hits Uso with a Flying Knee from the second rope in the corner. Edge follows up with a cover attempt. Uso kicks out at the two. As Uso gets back to his feet, he lands a big Samoan Drop on Edge followed by a cover. Edge kicks out at the two.
Once again, we watch as Uso climbs to the top turnbuckle in the corner of the ring, but Edge quickly meets him and shoves him back as Edge climbs to the top and hits a Hurricanrana on Uso!
