WWE SmackDown Results & Discussion (10/4)

The October 4th, 2016 edition of WWE SmackDown aired live on the USA Network from the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, CA. 

Kane def. Bray Wyatt: Bray and Kane start off with a bang exchanging blows all over the ring. After a couple more minutes of fairly fast-paced action, Randy Orton shows up on the big screen to interrupt. Orson is upside down, then the video turns right side up. While Bray is staring at the big screen, Kane sits up and goes for the chokeslam. Bray gets out and rolls outside and retreats. Bray retreats up the ramp and Kane wins via DQ.

Nikki Bella def. Alexa Blissvia DQ: Carmella is on commentary and early on Nikki throws Alexa right into her over the announce table. Back in the ring, Nikki goes for a samoan drop on Alexa but Carmella runs in and attacks Nikki. Becky comes out for the save and Alexa and Carmella retreat to the back.

Alexa Bliss & Carmella def. Nikki Bella & Becky Lynch: This match gets made during the commercial break. Nikki and Carmella both get their signature spots in, then Alexa hits the Twisted Bliss on Becky for the win.

– Bray Wyatt is backstage looking for Randy Orton. He walks into a dimly lit storage unit, then Orton shuts and locks the door behind him.

 

– Baron Corbin is walking backstage and gets confronted by Jack Swagger. Swagger challenges him to a fight right now. Baron says he does his talking in the ring, so Swagger says they can continue it in the ring next week.

Nikki Bella def. Alexa Blissvia DQ: Carmella is on commentary and early on Nikki throws Alexa right into her over the announce table. Back in the ring, Nikki goes for a samoan drop on Alexa but Carmella runs in and attacks Nikki. Becky comes out for the save and Alexa and Carmella retreat to the back.

– Daniel Bryan comes out to the ring with some women in Susan G. Komen shirts. Bryan congratulates them on beating cancer and gives them SmackDown championship belts. Bryan leads the crowd in a “what” chant to close out the show. – The Hype Bros def. The Vaudevillians: The Vaudevillians control the first half to the match, but Mojo gets the hot tag and clears the ring. He decks English with a shoulder block then hits a Stinger splash. Mojo hits a variation of the F-5 on English. Ryder lays out Gotch then the Bros hit the Hype Ryder on English for the win.

– The Miz comes out to the ring for Miz TV and asks Dolph Ziggler to join him. Ziegler comes out and they sit down, then Miz shows a video highlighting the failures of Dolph Ziggler’s career. The Miz shows several embarrassing moments from Ziggler’s past, and calls his career “11 long years of mediocrity.” Ziegler says he does it for the fans, and The Miz says to forget the fans because his career is over on Sunday. The Miz brings out two members of The Spirit Squad to “raise Ziggler’s spirits.” The Spirit Squad do a song about Ziggler, and The Miz makes fun of him for being a part of the group. Ziggler starts yelling and then the Spirit Squad attacks him form behind and beat him down. The Miz leaves and The Spirit Squad celebrates in the ring. Ziegler hops up and super kicks both members, then yells at The Miz from the ring.

– We get a look at Bray Wyatt in the storage contain from a security camera. Bray slams on the wall and then sits in a chair in the middle of the room.

American Alpha vs. The Usos: The Usos work on Gable’s injured knee in the opening moments of the match and try to keep him grounded. Jordan tags in and goes for a German duplex, but instead drops Jey down into a pin for the win. Jey attacks Gable outside and Gable is selling his knee. The Usos lay out Jordan too, then go to double team in the ring but Heath Slater and Rhino come out for the save.

– Orton opens up the storage unit in the back and Bray is nowhere to be seen.

Baron Corbin vs. Jack Swagger: Corbin controls the majority of the first few minutes. Swagger dodges a spear and boots Corbin in the face, then hits a series of clotheslines and a powerslam. Swagger gets Corbin in the ankle lock and the referee rules that Corbin tapped out, in a controversial decision.

 

– AJ Styles comes out to the ring and announces to the crowd that “the champ is here.” He cuts a promo about SmackDown being the land of opportunity for him, until Dean Ambrose interferes. Ambrose cuts a promo on AJ, then starts going off about John Cena. Xena comes out to the ring, but before he can say a word, AJ yells at him to shut up. AJ mocks Cena and says he’s going to make a fool of himself. Cena goes to say something, but Ambrose interrupts him this time. Ambrose says Cena is a kiss-ass behind the scenes and is just “playing John Cena on TV.” Cena spears Ambrose then throws AJ out of the ring. He hits the Attitude Adjustment on Ambrose then holds up AJ’s title belt. AJ runs back in and spears down Cena then pummels him. Cena fights out, but AJ hits the Phenomenal Forearm then leaves with his belt. As AJ is walking to the back, Ambrose jumps him from behind and hits the Dirty Deeds on the ramp. Ambrose holds up the WWE Title belt on the ramp as SmackDown goes off the air.
