— Last night, WWE presented its first three-hour Smackdown and it not only was it an eventful episode on screen, but backstage as well. PWInsiderelite.com reports that there were multiple late revisions to the script for Smackdown and one major change was that originally, the plan was for the show to open up with a Kevin Owens promo that would have seen involvement from both Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes. The report adds that there was “a lot of bouncing back and forth” on what would be best creatively for the three wrestlers and ultimately the team finalized on what played out on TV. Apparently there was also a pitch to have Jey Uso being involved before things went in a different direction.
— Tiffany Stratton cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase and won the WWE Women’s Title from Nia Jax and this move was reportedly planned “for weeks” but was a secret that was closely guarded with only a few key individuals in the know. PWInsider.com reported that the cash-in and title change was planned specifically for Smackdown’s expansion to three hours in order to deliver a big moment for the show, the USA Network and Stratton herself.
