WWE WrestleMania News: Rousey vs. Lynch Scrapped; John Cena’s Match, Cody Rhodes’ Return

— WWE’s biggest event of the year – WrestleMania – is now on the horizon, however, there is a lot of uncertainty around who will be appearing at the show as well as what the matches are scheduled to be at the top of the card. As way back as last year, it was believed that one of the headline matches would be Becky Lynch returning and taking on Ronda Rousey – a bout that was penciled in by Vince McMahon when he led creative. However, multiple sources are now confirming that that match is no longer planned with Rousey possibly going against Rhea Ripley instead. Fightfulselect.com reports that at least one talent believes Rousey will still be booked into a “big match” at the show.

— Other Vince McMahon ideas are also reportedly up in the air including a Cody Rhodes return and match for one or both heavyweight titles. While it was assumed that Rhodes will figure into the title picture, it wasn’t outright confirmed and another pitch for Rhodes was for him to wrestle John Cena. Cena, who many believe will be at WrestleMania, was originally planned to wrestle Austin Theory but creative has recently shifted and there is talk that he may not be wrestling against Logan Paul. Fightful added that WWE is obviously wanting both Paul and The Rock for WrestleMania but haven’t been able to gain confirmation on the status of either performer. It is believed that WWE is looking to lock down their WrestleMania plans by later this month when the Royal Rumble premium live event goes down.
