XFL Cancels 2020 Regular Season Due To COVID-19 Outbreak

XFL Cancels Remainder Of 2020 Regular Season: Players Still Receiving Full Pay, Ticket Refunds Offered

Not only has WWE moved this week’s episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown has been moved from the Little Caesers Arena in Detroit, Michigan to an empty WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, the entire 2020 XFL Regular Season has been scrapped as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The league issued a statement via social media on Thursday to confirm the news that they will be following suit with other major sports leagues such as MLS, NHL, NBA and NCAA, just to name a few, that have canceled games or entire seasons of games as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, particularly in the United States.

“Currently, the XFL will not be playing its’ regular season games,” read the beginning of the XFL Statement released via the official XFL Twitter feed on Thursday. “However, all players will be paid their base pay and benefits for the 2020 Regular Season.”

The statement continued, explaining that refunds will be offered to those who purchased tickets to any of the upcoming regular season games that have now officially been cancelled, as well as their current outlook on the 2021 season.

“All XFL ticket-holders will be issued refunds or credit towards future games,” the statement read. “The XFL is committed to playing a full season in 2021 and future years.”
