It looks like the XFL has already found some strong competition from a familiar face.
It was announced today that longtime NBC Sports executive and former partner of the original XFL alongside Vince McMahon, Dick Ebersole, will be joining his son as the founders of another upstart national professional football league.
Ebersole and his son, Charlie, who produced the ESPN 30 For 30 documentary where the return of Ebersole and McMahon to the football world was teased, will be launching The Alliance of American Football.
The league includes several major financial investors and part owners. The first season will begin in February 2019, well before the XFL returns in 2020, and is already cleared with a television deal, something the XFL has yet to finalize.
