Zelina Vega/WWE Mega-Update: Reactions From Within AEW, IMPACT & More Backstage Notes

The WWE release of Zelina Vega caught many within the pro wrestling industry off guard, and has garnered responses and reactions from very important figures outside of the business.

Dave Meltzer talked about the situation on the latest issue of his Wrestling Observer Radio program at F4WOnline.com. He mentioned that Zelina Vega was released by WWE for trying to unionize and it was a message by Vince McMahon.

For a while now, there have been conversations about unionizing among the wrestling community. WWE’s third-party rule only increased the conversation, with Andrew Yang pitching in as well.

It’s also worth noting that the @WrestleVotes account on Twitter is reporting that Aleister Black, the real-life husband of Vega, was recently denied a request he made to WWE to be moved to the WWE NXT brand.

Whether or not this is anyway related to the news of Vega’s release from the company is unknown, although it is more evidence of a sign of frustration among the two wrestling stars.

Fightful Select is reporting that AEW was surprised by the move, with one member of the company claiming WWE “has lost their minds,” while noting that they didn’t realize what they had in Vega.

Additionally, an IMPACT Wrestling star told the website that he will be personally pushing for the company to re-sign Vega, as she has a history with the promotion and it would seemingly be a good fit for both sides.

Recent U.S. Presidential candidate Andrew Yang is also all over this news, as he made a point to jump on Twitter, where he is often active on hot-button issues stemming from the WWE Universe, commenting on a tweet that he was tagged in regarding Zelina Vega’s WWE release being related to the unionization issue.

“I haven’t forgotten about Vince McMahon,” Yang wrote.

The news also caught the attention of one of the larger labor unions in Hollywood, SAG-AFTRA, which represents over 160,000 artists across the world.

They responded to Vega’s tweet by writing, “So do we.”

President of SAG-AFTRA Gabrielle Carteris, who previously starred in Beverly Hills 90210, also wrote to Vega.

“Hey Zelina Vega,” she started. “Thanks for standing strong for labor solidarity. I support you. Please email me [email protected].”

We will keep you posted here at eWrestling.com as updates regarding the WWE release of Zelina Vega and the hot-button issue of a union being formed behind-the-scenes in WWE continues to surface.
