We now have a NXT Women’s Championship bout set for the upcoming milestone NXT TakeOver XXX special event during WWE SummerSlam 2020 Weekend.
Following the August 5, 2020 edition of WWE NXT on the USA Network, Dakota Kai is now the #1 contender for the NXT Women’s Championship title match against Io Shirai!

During last night’s edition of NXT, Kai defeated former NXT Women’s Champion, Rhea Ripley, much to everyone’s surprise who actually saw the match. Kai and Ripley faced each other in a very one sided match largely dominated by Ripley. The former NXT Women’s champion rag dolled her opponent for much of the match. Kai on her part, showed steely determination by kicking out despite looking out of it.
Some will contend with the fact that Kai’s victory was solely due to the assistance received from Mercedes Martinez while the referee was distracted. However, Kai earned the the #1 Contender spot nonetheless and will move on to face Shirai later this month.
The Captain of Team Kick says she’s in Io Shirai’s head. Kai believes that the psychological edge will be enough for her to capture the NXT Women’s Championship!
Kai will look to do exactly that as she challenges Shirai at NXT TakeOver XXX (originally NXT TakeOver: Boston) which is set to air on pay-per-view.
NXT TakeOver: XXX (originally named “NXT TakeOver: Boston”) is an upcoming WWE Network event produced by WWE for their black and red brand. It is scheduled to take place on August 22, 2020 at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. It will be the 30th NXT TakeOver event for the NXT brand under WWE.
